How do you network 2 Linux computers locally?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 26, 2011
I guess I never really thought about it before, but how do you actually set up networking for 2 side-by-side computers with Ubuntu 10.x?
Like 2 computers side by side connected to the same router and local IP addresses (like 192.168.x.x)
Do you have to enable networking somehow? Do you just share folders or is there more to it?
how do you access mysql(linux) witihn the LAN network?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: December 5, 2010
we have a linux box with mysql 5.2 installed.
I made sure it's running and double checked the port 3306 and it's open through (netstat -tulpn) but I can't in anyway access it on the network.
I checked with ping and all hosts are properly responding.
I try to access with a command like:
mysql -h 192.168.1.32 -u root -p
and it says "unknown mysql host '...":
what am I missing here?
it's mysql 5.2 running on CentOS

Yeah that's the one. Just copy it as .dir_colors into your home directory and it will override the other ones. Right now all the color codes are for the 16-color scheme, which won't be taking advantage of the 256-color capability.
The first thing I would do is change the "COLOR tty" line to "COLOR all" so you actually see the colors on all your terminals. Then in the command line I would make sure I have 256 colors enabled with
How do you clean up Linux and why?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 8, 2013
In windows you have a program called Diskcleanup. You can also add on other utilities like Ccleaner. I have been wondering If or what programs in Linux does the samething for the Linux system. Also How often a person should do it? I've already discovered on my system two programs for cleaning up stuff. But as far as what they are cleaning and if it is good or not, I don't know. The One program is called Janitor. The other I found in the ubuntu software center. It is called: Bleachbit. My goal here is to get rid of Cache and other unneeded stored information. Also on Windows I use CCleaner to get rid of flash cookies. How do you do that on Linux?

<SOLVED> How do you remove old linux packages?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 12, 2009
installer gives an error saying my /boot partition is short on space, and I found this thread discussing the problem/ solution, but it does not give the details...
Re: Gusty Gibbon upgrade problem re /boot free space
It turns out that you can't delete old kernels manually. You have to delete them through apt-get. So remove all your old linx-image packages and you should be all set the next time you upgrade.
In my particular situation I installed the CD Hardy 08.04, upgraded to Intrepedid 08.10, and now that I want to upgrade to 09.04 I received this error message:
The upgrade is now aborted. The upgrade needs a total of 1204M free space on disk '/'. Please free at least an additional 840M of disk space on '/'. Empty your trash and remove temporary packages of former installations using 'sudo apt-get clean'.
and then after cleaning-up, and running an autoremove command, I got:

Hi so the version in Ubuntu 11.04 is out of date(.5) so I went to the website and downloaded .61 and the .62 patch which are zip files. Instructions on their website aren't very clear(their Ubuntu instructions say it is just in the reps). I tried sh warsow but it says "warsow.i86 error while loading shared libraries: libcurl.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory. Am I supposed to be typing sh warsow? How do you run this from their website any ideas? Thanks for any help you can provide edit: i tried the symbolic link instructions on the page as well( ln -s /usr/lib/libcurl.so.4 /usr/lib/libcurl.so.3)and it still gives the same error message.
