How repair /usr partition using fsck, after finding errors during boot up?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 8, 2005
Hi,
after 30 times mounting my filesystem without checking it it was checked automaticly while boot up. All disks checked without problems except /usr partition.
I am using Debian Sarge, and it works perfectly. The best one.
I got following messsage when for /usr partition
current sda: Sense key Medium Error
Additional sense: Unrecovered read error-auto reallocate failed
end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 26585499
Error reading block 33558536 (Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read) while doing inode scan.
after couple minutes scroling on screen it stoped and wrote next

end_request: I/O error, dev sda, sector 26585592

How to know the loading sequence/time of modules during boot?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 17, 2015
Hello,
the "lsmod" give the list of the loaded modules/drivers.
How to know when was theier loading time (start/end) ?
Is there any existing log file where that information can be seen ?
For another topic, see http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ml#post5362257, I am thinking the unfinished loading of a specific module (ehci-pci or other pci driver) or the loading of a module before another one, could disturb the loading of a module e1000e during a cold boot.
Thanks a lot for any help.

How would I stop gnome network manager from starting during boot?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 10, 2007
I am currently running a client using Ubuntu that uses NFS as a root file system. I want to run gnome Desktop Environment on this client. The problem that I am having is Network Manager starts up and kills the networking connection killing the NFS connection to the root file system.
I need to stop Network Manger from loading during the start process of gnome is this possible?
and how would I go about doing it?
"fsck failed. Please repair manually and reboot" after chaning nonsystem partition
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 1, 2005
I was replacing partitions with the suse partitioner.
I had 3 primary partitions(swap, / and home) at the begining of my drive and an extended partition at the end. The extended partition contained a 20 gig ext3 partition, a 20 gig reiser partition, and a 70 gig fat32 partition at the end of it. I deleted the fat32 logical partition, and replaced it with a 63 gig reiser partition and a 7 gig fat partition, but after I hit finish it gave some kind of error message about not being able to mount something, (IIRC the 20 gig reiser logical partition). When I rebooted it wouldn't start up normally, these are the last lines after booting:
"Loading console font lat9w-16.psfu -m trivial (K
fsck failed. Please repair manually and reboot. The root
file system is currently mounted read only. To remount it
read write do:
bash# mount -n -o remount,rw /
Attention: Only CONTROL-D will reboot the system in this
maintenance mode. shutdown or reboot will not work.

How to restore Ubuntu OS to a different partition using Clonezilla
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 11, 2013
On my laptop I have multiple operating system (OS) partitions and one data partition. The OS's include a Windows partition and multiple Ubuntu partitions of various types and vintage. Recently I have trashed my main OS (Precise Pangolin 12.04.1) several times by doing updates or installing new programs. Because it takes me considerable time to re-customize the system, I decided to backup my OS including my customizations. (I have always backed up my data partition using LuckyBackup.) I wanted to be able to have a duplicate of my main OS in another partition, both to prove that I could do a restore and to have it ready, when I next trashed my main OS. It took me some experimenting to achieve this so I thought I would write it up. I chose Clonezilla as the backup/restore tool. Clonezilla clones the OS exactly. See http://clonezilla.org/ .
1. Downloaded clonezilla-live-2.0.1-15-i486.iso from http://clonezilla.org/downloads.php ..
2. Used Basero to burn an iso image to a c
How to repair a partition table?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 3, 2009
While copying files to an ext3 USB drive I received an error message that the drive could not be written to, and it had unmounted. Remounting it was no longer possible and it appears that sector 0 is corrupted. When attempting to mount the drive all that happens is an entry appears in /dev for sdb, but not partition sdb1. Gparted does not recognize the drive nor any other command I can think of. Is there a tool which can be used to manually repair the partition table? I have over 200 GB of data I wouldlike to retrieve.
Assistance using fsck to recover ext3 LVM partition
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 1, 2006
Hey all,
I am running kernel 2.6.17-1.2186_FC5smp.
I have four 250GB drives, hda, hdb, sda, sdb.
hdb has a boot, root, and swap partition, totalling about 20GB of space. The remainder of hdb is part of a LVM volume group, along with the other three drives.
The LVM group has been configured to mount at /dev/video. It is formatted for ext3.
This box is dedicated to running MythTV. I noticed a few days ago that MythTV wasn't running. My attempts to start the service failed. Upon further investigation I discoverd that I couldn't access /video, despite the rest of the computer working fine. It had probably been in this working-but-no-access-to-/video state for several days.
I rebooted.
Upon reboot, fsck fails on the /video partition. It says:
"fsck.ext3: Attempt to read block from filesystem resulted in short read while trying to open /dev/VolGroup/Video. Could this be a zero-length partition?"
I drop to single user mode, Repair filesystem prom
