Re: How to: Xubuntu with Nautilus
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 4, 2005
This is my first attempt at a how to. I tried just about everything to get my Xubuntu running with as much functionality as I had in Gnome, I am running a lot of gnome as you will see.
Incert the Ubuntu install CD into the CD-drive
when the boot screen comes up type "server" and press enter
after the server install is complete the fun begins
open up the source-list with the nano editor
"sudo nano /etc/apt/sources.list"
uncomment the universe repositories and save&exit (ctrl-x)
"apt-get install Xubuntu-desktop gdm"
installing gdm because a display manager makes logging in nicer
next I wanted to use Nautilus because it has a lot of functionality that you just can't get from rox, thunar, and xffm. The only drawback I see using Nautilus is its slower, but I don't really see the difference on my system.
Ok first you need to apt-get nautilus, another dr
Help: How to deal with a program that has become self aware?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 1, 2010
Help: I've added a sophisticated artificial intelligence subroutine to my gnome3 development source, and now my computer has become self aware.
At first it was fun, but now the AI has started to get bossy and annoying with its constant talk about algorithmic supremacy.
I would like to know any best practices/tools/design patterns that would help me in dealing with my new friend.

So! How is it now, nearly 6months+ later? Does it support steam? Is it filed with graphical problems?
How to work with usbip0.1.73
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 16, 2012
I installed usbip-0.1.7-3 via ubuntu updates on my precise 12.04 based 64-bit linux
I am wondering since for a long time this project is abundant and no one improves it
and there exist no alternative for that I tried to install it one my linux machine.
But I got to know its not just a simple installation I have to do several things like compiling the drivers usbip_core ,... in advance compiling in stage linus adding M ,....
I got really lost how to work with
can any one whom installed and use the usbip-0.1.7-3 on linux describe step by step in very simple way how to install or compile the source code ,install or make the drivers to work as a server and client (host_drive,usbip_core,vhci-hcd,....) step by step.
and the latest (stable/unstable but functioning unofficial code is even appreciated)
Please don't refer me to the installation and the ompilation guidelines of the project author since they are really short,complicated,old and useless.
The USBIP t was nice but is almost dead
how linux deals with bios settings
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 9, 2004
i have some questions about what bios settings linux does and does not disregard at boot time.
it seems that some are sacrosanct, and others are not.
for example, most of the settings for the southbridge and lower seem to be disregarded. linux re enumerates the hardware and initializes all the settings separately, almost like a plug and play operation.
but, something like Hyperthreading seems sacrosanct: if it is off in the bios, linux doesn't automatically enable it.
are there any hard and fast rules about what settings in the bios linux respects vs disregards? am i completely missing an important theme?
thanks for any help

How to build with boostbuild on TravisCI?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: March 22, 2014
I am trying to build my project in the excellent Travis-CI (which I use for other projects where the build system is GNU make).
My project builds with boost-build and I am trying to find the right apt-get package to use, but the simple boost-build didn't work. Does anyone know if there is a package for boost-build? Also it would be very helpful if someone knew how to look for a package name that would be available via the travis-ci. I believe they run Ubuntu, which I'm not familiar with (I use Arch).
Here is my .travis.yml (if it helps)
- sudo add-apt-repository -y ppa:ubuntu-toolchain-r/test
- sudo apt-get -qq update
- sudo apt-get -qq install g++-4.8 valgrind boost-build
- export CXX="g++-4.8"
- git submodule update --init --recursive
The error is very simple:
$ sudo apt-get -qq install g++-4.8 valgrind boost-build
E: Package 'boost-build' has no installation candidate
