Installing and booting mac os x on a single boot install of ubuntu 10.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 24, 2011
hardware and speculations-
white macbook 4,1
os x 10.5.8
120gb hard drive
2.1ghz intel core 2 duo
I decided to try and dual boot Ubuntu because there were some programs i wanted to run on my computer that os x couldnt (.exe). so i successfully installed ubuntu onto my macbook but in the process, deleted my mac partition and mac os x all together, but thank god i backed all my files up in time machine to an external hard drive. i didnt intentionally want to single boot ubuntu to my macbook and have done extensive research for solutions. im probably not as fluent in computers as some people on this forum but im not illiterate, more on the amateur side.
solutions ive tried-
ive been working for about 3 to 4 days trying to reinstall mac os x through a dvd and a 4gb flash drive. everytime i boot through the dvd or flash drive, it will not give me a mac boot option. it will show an icon with a hard drive with an arrow under it named windows. when i click
A/V playback stuttery and getting worse how to troubleshoot? (ubuntu 10.10)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 2, 2011
I've been having a problem with intermittent stuttering in video and audio playback since upgrading to Maverick (it also happened when I briefly installed Lucid). It started out as the odd skip every 20 minutes or so but now it can happen 5 or 6 times in 10 minutes when watching a film.
reformatting and clean installing
using a half-dozen players
installing every codec I could think of (only after the normal ones wouldn't help)
diangosing my 3 hard drives (the problem occurs on them all and they're not in a RAID setup)
changing then changing back my video drivers
disabling pulseaudio and ubuntuone-sync (these were not installed in my previous, working setup)
looking at every relevant log file (mplayer, smplayer, demsg...) I know of
running ubuntu's testing utilities
I'm out of ideas. Going back to Jaunty is the only solution I'm pretty sure will work but it's not exactly ideal. It will be a few months at least before I'm able to install a completely new distro.

Which version of Adobe Flash player do I install for Ubuntu 10.10?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 21, 2011
Hi, I have just installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my laptop, and can't figure out which version of Adobe Flash Player to download. I have downloaded from the Ubuntu Software Centre the following: Adobe Air and Adobe Flash Plug In, but as things aren't loading I guess I still need to download the Flash Player itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Install of Ubuntu 10.10 Server on Machine with only Serial Console
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 11, 2010
I'm trying to get Ubuntu server 10.10 installed on a machine that doesn't have a graphics card installed. My only option right now is to use a serial port as a console.
Does anyone have any tips or instructions on how I can set up the system using a serial port console?
Is there something that I can edit within the ISO to redirect the output?
Thanks in advance,

LTSP server install on Ubuntu 10.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 17, 2010
Im new here, been messing with Ubuntu about 2 yrs but want to explain my problems over the last few days with LTSP and how I got it working to try and help others.
I installed in Virtualbox many times and the clients would not connect. The config of the dhcpd.conf was the problem.
Everywhere I kept reading it said I had to turn off my hardware routers dhcp. Thats wrong, I have it working with it on and with one network card. Heres the nuts and bolts.
Dlink 4100 hardware router assigning address block 192.168.2.200-250 to pcs on the lan. Router is set to reserve and IP for the ltps server nic so it gets the same IP assigned every time from the hardware router. No need to force linux to an ip when it can be set in the router.
Then installed LTSP from alt-cd.
Once done, dhcp wont run because it conflicts with the hardware dhcp. Found out by trying to restart it and it said stop - Fail when it tried to stop it.
sudo /etc/init.d/dhcp3-server restart
So edit /etc/ltsp/dhcpd.conf.
