None of the pre-built vmmemctl modules for VMware Tools is suitable for your
running kernel. Do you want this program to try to build the vmmemctl module
for your system (you need to have a C compiler installed on your system)?

How to install VMware Tools Tutorial
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 27, 2008
After quite a lot of people asked me how to achieve this, namely install vmware tools, especially for Linux hosts, I realized the task is not as trivial as it seems and decided to write this tutorial.
It demonstrates, step-by-step, how to install vmware tools, both on Windows and Linux guest. For Linux guests, the tutorial also shows how to work with archives, how to compile packages from the command line, the preliminary installation of compilation-necessary packages - make, gcc, kernel source, kernel headers, setting up vmware tools to run at startup, and more.
The linux demo is done on Linux Mint 4, which is very similar to Ubuntu, but the idea is the same for all distros, since we use archives and command line interface rather than rpm or deb packages.
The next article will show you how to install guest addons in VirtualBox, again both on windows and linux hosts - that's in 2 days.
These two articles are an introduction to: 3d acceleration in virtual machines
How to install VMware tools in redhat 9?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 4, 2004
I am running vmware 4.0 on windows and have successfully installed redhat 9 on vmware. I need to install vmware tools before starting x but had trouble when it was looking for location of C header files matching my kernel. I pointed it to /usr/include and then got "the directory of kernel headers 2.4.20 does not match your current running kernel 2.4.20-8". Then it asks for the location of C header files again. I would like help on installing the vmware tools and any help will be appreciated.

How do I manually install vmware tools?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
I installed UBUNTU with Vmware Player on my Windows 7 system. For some reason Vmware Player cannot get the Vmware Tools files from internet, possibly a connection problem due to firewall limitations. I want to get the Vmware Tools files in compressed format if there is any, and then manually install it. Two questions:
1- Is there a link where i can download Vmware Tools files?
2- How do i install it manually? I'm using Vmware Player on a Windows 7 system. And if i download it, which folder should i unzip the contents? As you know, UBUNTU runs on a virtual disk, and to copy files on this disk i guess i have to use Vmware Tools. But i don't have it already.
