How do i make a VNC connection via. a Putty SSH Tunnel to CentOS?
location: linux.com - date: December 12, 2012
I'm trying to create a VNC connection from a Windows 7 client to a CentOS 5.x
The connection is closed immediately when i create the connection.
I have followed these instructions.
In the Puty configutration i have tried with source 5801, target url:5801
and source 5901, target url:5901
Connection directly to the server works but then the connection is not secure. But it proves that there is no firewall or other network issues.
TightVNC quits with "Connection has been gracefully closed"
RealVNC says "The connection closed unexpectedly"
Do i need to install the TightVNC server in order to use the TightVNC client?
[SOLVED] Thunderbird/Enigmail: How can I make gpgagent absentminded?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 8, 2013
I've recently setup Thunderbird with Enigmail on my Xubuntu box. The Enigmail was automatically configured to use gpg-agent for passphrase handling. I've imported my public and private pgp keys into gpg, and I've successfully setup IMAP on Thunderbird. Now whenever I receive an encrypted email I can decrypt it by clicking on it - this is where thunderbird/enigmail/gpg-agent prompts for the private key passphrase.
Once I enter it I can decrypt the mail normally. The thing is that I only have to enter the passphrase once per session. Every other email will be decrypted automatically. The only problem is that the gpg-agent is everknowing. It doesn't seem to forget the authentication no matter how long I keep the PC running (even with thunderbird closed). This kind of bugs me because I'd like the system to forget the authentication after 5 minutes since the pgp private key was last needed. Is there a way to do this for my setup?
I've read some docs about having to specify some settin
How to make a ssh tunnel
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 13, 2013
I'm trying to make a ssh tunnel, but it doesn't seem to work.
Here is the set up:
There are two servers that are important. One server can be reached from the outside (let's say server 1). One is an internal server (let's say server 2), which can be reached once you are on server 1.
There is an LDAP service I have to bind to on server 2. Now, when I put my php script on server 1, I can bind to server 2 without any problems (running apache on server 1).
Now, I'm trying to run this script locally while forwarding the LDAP service to my pc here. What I'm trying to do is this:
ssh -L [local port]:[user]@[server 1]:389 localhost
389 is the port for LDAP.
I've tried a lot of things. But nothing seems to work . Tutorials about ssh tunneling are confusing and contradict each other.
I've also tried two hop solutions, which none of them seemed to work.
I hope someone has a solution here.
How do I automatically make a ssh key?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 20, 2005
I am wondering how I can automatically make an ssh key with like a script or something. I know ssh -t dsa will make me a key but I need to have it done automatically so I can create a new key every 24 hours or so and run the script in the cron.
If anybody knows, that would be great.
How to make a SSH persist after tty close..
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 1, 2010
I use a reverse SSH tunnel to log into my university machine from home. In order to do so, i start the java client that let me have ssh access to my university machine (since is behind a nat), then start the ssh -R command.
However the java client is defective and brings my firefox to 99% cpu and ram leak, If I close the java client, i also lose the ssh -R tunnel and the connection.
I tried to give disown, but again when the TTy is closed i also lose the tunnel.
Is there any way to make it persistent? at least for an hour once i have closed the java client?

how do I make Ubuntu remember my SSH password
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 11, 2009
and I use SVN+SSH:// to connect to our repository. The problem is that openSSH password box pops up too often and I want to get rid of it.
I've been trying to go through this
but no success. I guess our server is not set up for DSA authentication. Also I think this manual is not exactly what I need. As far as I understand it remembers passwords for the current session only.
In windows I set up tortoiseSVN to use the following SSH client:
C:\Program Files\TortoiseSVN\bin\TortoisePlink.exe -l MY_LOGIN_HERE -pw MY_PASSWORD_HERE (that exe file is Putty)
Is there any way I can do the same in Ubuntu? May be there is some way to make putty the default SSH client?
Thanks for any help!
how to use ssh to make a proxy server
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 22, 2008
From what I've read, it is possible to tunnel my http requests through any other machine that I have ssh access to? Is this right?
I'm trying it right now, with a command like this
ssh -D 8080 computer.atschool.edu -Nf -l myname
it appears to bind properly, no error messages. But, if I tell firefox to use localhost 8080 as the proxy server, nothing happens!
I try to browse to www.google.com, but no page shows up. No error, no nothing, no indication that the server was ever communicated with.
Btw, I use firestarter, but have turned it completely off for this experiment.
