How to rebuild NTFS3G with integrated FUSE support and make it setuid root?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 7, 2011
I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 and I want to mount my ntfs partitions using ntfs-3g, but there's an error message saying that
1> I must remove setuid/setgid bit from ntfs-3g binary
Or
2> Rebuild NTFS-3G with integrated FUSE support and make it setuid root.
Earlier 1st option was to mount as root and I did as suggested on tuxera.com.
Code:
sudo chown root $(which ntfs-3g)
sudo chmod 4755 $(which ntfs-3g)
Then I started getting the above mentioned error.
So I figured 2nd option should be a better solution. But honestly speaking I don't know what it even means. Please explain me how and what is to be done.

How to make the most of 4GB RAM?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 19, 2013
Hi
I've just upgraded my RAM from 2 to 4 GB and I'd like to make the most of it to take some of the load off the not-so-good CPU in my laptop (Intel Celeron 900, single-core 2GHz). What are the best things to load into RAM for fast access? Or does Ubuntu do all this very well by default?

How to make steam games work?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 22, 2011
I installed team fortress 2 and steam into wine ,and now the game refuses to work. I installed it using this tutorial:
http://www.fsckin.com/2007/10/15/how...tu-using-wine/
Everything worked great, steam runs fine, and everything goes just as it should, except when I try to start the game. I click the 'Play' icon under Team Fortress 2, then the 'Preparing Team Fortress 2' window pops up, goes away and then NOTHING HAPPENS.
Is this a problem with Wine or should I look elsewhere for a solution?
Thank You
How could a indie game company make money using OSS
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 29, 2009
I have a question about Open Source philosophy, specifically the philosophy of the FSF, and this seemed like a good place to ask.
If I decide I want to start a indie game studio, and furthermore I decide to release my games as OSS under the GPL, how do I make money?
I know my post count makes me look like a n00b, but I have been using OSS for a while (Yay Blender, the GIMP, Ubuntu, Inkscape, ...) and I just want to increase my understanding of the philosophy behind it.
How to make Ubuntu look nice & old dos games
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 23, 2006
Hi
Getting used to Ubuntu 5.10. Looks a bit ugly. Anyone know how to make Ubuntu look a bit nicer. I've heard about XGL, opengl desktop. Don't exactly know how it works, does it run with GNOME or is it a GNOME replacement? I saw this: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/gallery/...352&original=1
Where can I get those stats it shows on the top right? I also saw this: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/gallery/...705&original=1
Where can I get that theme or whatever is being used? Another thing... Have any of you people been to www.the-underdogs.org? Is there site just down or are they closed? I'm looking for a similar place to get some of those oldies.
Any help appreciated
Regards
How to make ubuntu 12.04 LTS faster on netbook
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 6, 2012
Hi all!
I looked around a lot for an advice as in the title but without any success.
I'd like to have some advices on how to make lighter and faster ubuntu 12.04 LTS on a netbook.
I have a samsung netbook (N150) with an Intel(R) Atom(TM) CPU N450 @ 1.66GHz (32 bit), 1 GB RAM and an Intel GMA graphic processor as graphic card.
I upgraded from ubuntu 10.04 LTS (netbook version) to 12.04 LTS some week ago. The 10.04 LTS version was very very faster than the one I have now.
I don't need any graphical effect (I use the 2D desktop environment), just I'd like to return to the speed of ubuntu 10.04 LTS.
Thanks for your help!
