how to make end of life ubuntu versions work
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 3, 2011
I am using Linux Mint 9 which is based on Ubuntu Lucid Lynx, a LTS edition with which i am much taken. It is my intention to continue using this and never upgrade even after it has reached it's end of life, which is going to be in April, 2013. To that end i have made a custom ISO with Remastersys (and burned to DVDs)to reinstall with, in the event of a crash. I have been given to understand that repositories for such editions will be shut down after the said expiry. Not a problem, sez i, i would already have all the applications i need, installed on my system and backed up on my custom DVDs. The only snag to my grandiose scheme would be the driver installation should i ever have to reinstall. Is there any way for me to get around this problem? I would extremely grateful is someone can help me prepare for that day, i'm too old and tired to be learning to cope with the likes of Unity and Gnome 3, and somewhat stubborn enough to stay with what i have settled on.

location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 25, 2011
Hi I finally upgraded from 8.10 amd64 to 10.10 amd64 got everything setup, and made a custom kernel with the the sched: automated per tty task groups. Any way wondering if
I can make a stable 2.6.37 or later upgrade that's customized as I remove All unused drivers and optimize for core 2. Using the localmodinfo and the sched: automated per tty task groups patch. Please help! I've been trying to make custom kernels using every other way I can find on the net. I have made a custom kernel using git called 2.6.35-27-kosher.
Also wondering how to upgrade to the latest stable openoffice
Xubuntu 12.04 (Xfce 4.12) How to make a file launcher in top panel?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 12, 2013
I have done a lot of searching, but only find directions/guides/wikis on how to add apps to a launcher to the top panel. I figured out how to add a xcalib script to be run in terminal when the launcher icon is clicked, so I am thinking somehow files should be able to be opened in one too. In gnome2, I could just drag the file to the top panel. Not so, with Xfce.
The first file, a .pdf file, is this one in my home:
Code:
/home/mikodo/BP.pdf
Can anyone tell me how to do this or provide a link on how to do it? I am stuck. If it involve writing scripts, I am screwed, so kindly don't waste your time with that.
Thanks.
;p
