I'm experimenting with wayland.
You can start Gnome with X through startx command. Is there an way to start Gnome with wayland through some command?
I would like to be able to run Gnome/X on my main display.
Then switch to display :2 (Ctrl+alt+win+F2/F3) and then run something like:
So that I have a seconday desktop with gnome running with wayland.
Is this possible? (A near-alternative is also welcome)
How to change Desktop environment/Session from command line?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 12, 2010
I had chosen automatic logon. Then updated to 10.04. During logout to change Desktop Environment/Session, I noticed that GDM login screen had an option for KDE session although I had not installed KDE. I got curious. So I tried it. System hangs. Restart does not help because somehow gdm proceeds to the KDE session although I did not choose it to be default session. So I had only CLI left.
I got over it by stopping gdm (/etc/init.d/gdm stop) and removing gdm and installing xdm. Anyway, what is the proper way? How to order desktop environment from CLI and/or where is the default desktop environment option written in a file?

How to manage Trash from command line in GNOME (delete, list, restore and empty)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 8, 2010
Trash in GNOME is generally handled in Nautilus file browser. Trash icon’s context menu provides shortcut to empty trash. But while working in command line, you may not prefer to empty trash by going to Trash icon in panel or file browser.
In older version of GNOME, the trash folder is in .Trash folder in your home directory (~/.Trash). But in current version (2.30) it is ~/.local/share/Trash/. It has two sub folders called files and info. The files folder contains the files deleted and info directory consists of meta data for each deleted file.

Is there a way to start the VNC server from the command line?
vncserver:0 says command not found and search of the entire system yields no results.
I am running Mandrake 10.0. Is there a different name for the vncserver? I can launch it in KDE from the "K" menu by going to "virtual network connection."
