Mystery process keeps using trying port 1900
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 19, 2010
Hi again. According to firestarter, there's some process on my machine that keeps trying to access port 1900, every two minutes exactly. I don't know what it is.
I've tried netstat -tnlp, but it doesn't show up. Presumably I have to do it at the exact second the process is trying to access the port.
Does anyone know of a bash subroutine that will keep doing netstat -pl until it finds a process on port 1900?
Hauppauge WinTV HVR 950Q problems (USB ATSC tuner)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 15, 2012
I just got a USB stick ATSC tuner, a Hauppauge HVR 950Q
I've read a lot of posts and tried a lot of things.
I know this device works because a friend with a XP laptop let me install it on that and I was watching TV with it at the same location as I am testing it on Ubuntu. (details at the end of this post)
Why doesn't this just work as easy as it does on XP ?
If you are here because you are having problems the answer may be simple, get a better antenna. I have had luck on "weaker" channels (picture cut out) by taking a wire and bending it so it's different lengths, finding the right length isn't easy when the silly programs don't tell you signal strength.
It seems these wonderful new digital things need a super good STRONG signal. I saw somewhere on the net that it said that you need at least 40% signal strength, whatever that means. Does anyone go by db anymore? Is it really that complicated to use a standard?
One other thing, you have to have a USB 2.0 por
8.10 winTV HVR 950q install woes
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 26, 2008
I recently purchased a Hauppauge winTV HVR 950q USB TV tuner and I have had no end of difficulty installing it.
After several searches through the forums I found a set of instructions targeted at edgy, these didnt work for me.
I have tried three different howto's that I have found at various places across the net. All of them have nearly the same instructions, and all of them are (sadly) for outdated versions of ubuntu (with the most common being for hardy).
The basic instructions:
compile drivers (this is where things get icky)
I don't want this to be the only thing left holding me to vista, especialy because tvtime and xawtv are much nicer programs than the included software.
If anyone can give me help or support, or even point me toward a more current howto (or one that anyone else has had success with, i just need a nudge in the right direction.)
If you need more information, just ask, I havn't dealt with pic
No Sound from TV Tuner (HVR 950Q)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 8, 2009
Installed Ubuntu 9.10 beta 64bit last night doing a fresh install. Everything works except for the sound from my Hauppauge HVR 950Q USB tv tuner which worked fine in 9.04 64bit.
Installed TVtime, pick up and play channels no problem. Opened up the new audio panel in Gnome, and checked the output for the tv tuner, and its showing that it is registering sound (the meter goes up and down related to the channel) but nothing is coming out. Tried using mplayer too, same issue. Everything *appears* to be unmuted.
Its probably something simple with a new way of doing things, but I can't seem to find the option to output it to my speakers.
Hauppage wintv hvr 950 usb tuner
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 22, 2007
I was thinking of getting Hauppauge's USB HVR 950 tv tuner from Radio Shack (It's on sale). I was wondering if it would work with SuSE 10.0. Would I have to get a driver for it?
Last time I tried a tv card (Hauppauge WinTV 150) My husband and I couldn't get the card to work and we couldn't fully understand the directions for the driver either. That was a year ago. Needless to say, the thing went back into the Windows computer.
I still would love to be able to watch TV on my Linux computer though.
