[SOLVED] VirtualBox NAT to access Linux server as guest
- date: September 19, 2011
I asked this question in networking, but it seems more appropriate in this forum.
I have a Linux server with static IP address, and I want to SSH/SMB to it.
In qemu it is easy with "-net user,net=192.168.136.0/24 -redir tcp:22:192.168.136.222:22 -redir tcp:445:192.168.136.222:445"
VirtualBox Host-only adapter also works after setting static IP address to it in the same network. Both SSH and SMB work fine in Windows7 host, but then it may conflict with my network, so I prefer using NAT instead and connect to localhost.
In Windows7 host if I do "VBoxManage.exe modifyvm "my server" --natpf1 "guestssh,tcp,127.0.0.1,2222,192.168.136.222,22", or equivalently use the dialog, then in Cygwin "ssh -v -p 2222 [email protected]
" connects to the port but here is what I get:
SSH Linux Server w/ Windows Client
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 7, 2010
I have used Linux for a while but am relatively new to networking concepts. I am trying to set up a ssh server on my Linux box at home so I can tunnel to it from my windows box at work. All connections at work are put through a proxy.
I'm not sure where I should start. If anyone has advice on how to get started or resources for me to learn more about networking (esp. ssh) that would be great.
[SOLVED] scp/ssh to cygwin server from linux server without password prompt...
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 16, 2011
I've seen how to do this from native linux native server to linux native server. Not a problem. My question has to do with ssh/scp exchange of key exchange between a windows cygwin server and a linux server.
There seems to be no /home/root/.. to hold the key exchange files. I've tried this between a cygwin server with a /home/administrator/.. subdirectory and the /root subdirectory on the linux server. Is this how I should do this?
Someone else set this up between these two servers earlier but forgot to document how it was done in his notes.
I don't want to break the existing systems by setting up the key generation incorrectly on the functioning pair's of servers.
Help/validation would be appreciated. Thanks!
Building a super secure Linux Server
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 9, 2008
Dear Linux Gurus,
I am intending to build a super bullet proof impenetrable Linux server.
Is there any suggestion to more secure this 'Penguin' ?
Running Daemons had not been decided yet.
I already know how to :
1. setup the iptables firewall
2. disable unused services
3. using non root accounts for running services
4. change the root password regularly using
more than 10 digit password including numbers and punctuations
Is there any other way to put a thicker armor ?
My boss was asking about the security within the kernel.
Is there any holes in the kernel modules, especially iptables
module. Is there any breach which can cripple the iptables ?
I also heard that RedHat can be shutdown within minutes
when attacked by hackers.
Any urls or books or whatever information would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
1&1 Linux server totally down how to recover data ?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 26, 2007
I post in "newbies" as i'm totally new to linux and really need your help.
For 2 days my server is totally unreachable via all ways possible.
I could reboot in rescue mode, and all I want is just to retrieve all my data (web, sql bases and so on) before re-installing a fresh new system.
No help is given at all for dedicated servers so I have to find myself a way to solve this.
I made a fdisk -l and here's what i get :
