Can I still use Ubuntu 10.04 and install software on it using software center
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 30, 2012
Last time I tried to do that, It said this version(10.xx)is not supported any more and get a new version. It wasn't Ubuntu 10.04 as I remember, it was just 10. The question is, if I install 10.04 LTS on my virtual machine , can I install software ? and it is still supported? I can't use new Ubuntu on my Vmachine because it gets slow. currently using Kubuntu 11 which is still slow so I really need Ubuntu 10 something.
[SOLVED] Failure to install ordinary software from Ubuntu 10.04 Software Center
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 1, 2010
I am trying to install several of the packages listed in the repositories for Ubuntu 10.04 LTS from the Ubuntu SoftwarecCenter. I get the error message: "The action would require the installation of packages from not authenticated sources."
How can this be...they are in the repository. Doesn't that mean they are authenticated?
By the way, under sources, I selected "Server for the United States".
What can I do to fix this?
HowTo install Tomcat 6 >= 6.0.32 on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 1, 2011
I need to install JIRA application on Ubuntu Server 10.04 LTS and Tomcat 6.
Unfortunately, Ubuntu 10.04 repos contains Tomcat 6.0.24-2ubuntu1.9 which seems not suitable for JIRA as it contains a critical bug as stated here (Before You Begin section - first bullet).
How can I install (or upgrade to) Tomcat 6 >= 6.0.32 on my server?

Install gcc2.95.3 in ubuntu 10.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 10, 2011
I want to install gcc-2.95.3 in ubuntu 10.04, i really need the gcc-2.95.3 not an other version.
After downloading the package gcc-2.95.3.tar.gz, here the steps i follow:
tar zxvf gcc-2.95.3.tar.gz
creat an other folder: objdir
../gcc-2.95.3/configure --prefix=/opt/objdir --enable-shared --enablelanguages=c,c++ --enable-threads=posix
in that step, i have the following error:
/usr/include/bits/stdio-lock.h:24: lowlevellock.h: No such file or directory
make: *** [iogetline.o] Error 1
make: Leaving directory `/opt/gcc/gcc-2.95.3/i686-pc-linux-gnu/libio'
make: *** [all-target-libio] Error 2
make: Leaving directory `/opt/gcc/gcc-2.95.3'
make: *** [bootstrap] Error 2
i try many other solutions but nothing seems works
how to find and install 32bit X11 libraries on 64bit ubuntu 10.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 27, 2010
I just created a new 64-bit ubuntu 10.04 system with codeblocks 10.05 to continue developing a 3D graphics engine/server that I put aside about 1 year ago. After some futzing, I can get simple new test projects to compile and execute, but I cannot get my 3D engine to compile.
The problem is the following. The compiler appears to compile all the files successfully, but then stops and issues the following error message:
ld cannot find -lX11
I only had the 32-bit implementation of my code working when I stopped developing a year ago, so I need to get that working first.
As far as I can tell, the problem is this. I installed the xorg-dev package, which installed the 64-bit include files and library files, but not the 32-bit include files and library files. Try as I might, I cannot find any separate package that includes the 32-bit include files and library files. Actually, I assume a single set of include files will support both 32-bit and 64-bit development... but I'
tar.gz how to install ubuntu 10.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 27, 2010
I have downloaded a tar.gz program how is it installed.
I find with windows using dos programing it is easy navigating between files and directories, gw basic etc.
With terminal you type in cd .. it takes you back to the home folder then if you type cd .. again it takes you back to the desktop, if you repeat the same sequence again cd .. terminal just returns with desktop, terminal just appears to work once and thats what makes it hard understanding the programing of terminal.
I find the only way around it is by turning terminal of and restarting it.
