[SOLVED] [tutorial] WiFi not working Ubuntu 11.04 Amilo Pa 3553 (Bios upgrade needed)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 13, 2011
This is how I fixed the problem that wireless stopped working on my Fujitsu-Siemens Amilo Notebook Pa 3553 after upgrading from 10.10 to 11.04.
Upgrading the BIOS from 1.14 to 1.16 fixed the problem - details here:
WiFi not working Ubuntu 11.04
Futjitsu-Siemens Amilo Pa 3553
The wireless modem was completely disabled - there were no wireless options in the connections GUI.
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: yes
The blue light at front wasn't lit up.
The Wired connection also stopped working properly.
the DNS server address (resolv.conf) needed to be manually reset after reboot.
usb keyboard not working ubuntu 11.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 4, 2012
I installed ubuntu on my T500 laptop a couple of days ago and everything was working fine. Today I plugged a usb keyboard and mouse directly into 2 of the usb ports. I then powered up. Everything was fine during the boot process I used the usb keyboard to select the boot option first in the windows - ubuntu choice and then in grub to move between the options and select one. When I am presented with the login prompt i use the usb keyboard to enter the password and that works as expected. When i try to use the usb keyboard anytime after that it doesn't do anything. The laptop keyboard works fine and the usb mouse works.
In searching the forums I found lots of usb problems described but my situation seems too be a little different. Reading the man pages there was a suggestion that it might be possible to add an entry to /etc/modules for ukbd but that doesn't appear to make any difference.
when I run dmesg | grep usb I get:
[ 0.376092] usbcore: registered new interface driver hub
USB to Serial not working Ubuntu 14.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 2, 2014
I'm running a current Ubuntu 14.04.
I have an FTDI USB to Serial port adapter I'm trying to plug in for programming microcontrollers.
I *expect* to get a /dev/ttyUSB0 or something that I can then map to com1 in Wine for my program...but I'm not getting that dev/ttyUSB0.
Any ideas where I can look for this device?

USB stick will not boot Ubuntu 11.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 1, 2011
I am feeling that I am banging my head against a brick wall and am fearful of enjoying it.
I wish to work with Ubuntu 11.04 but rather than see how it looks from a Live CD my thought was to have the OS on a USB stick. By using the USB my idea was that any changes I wished to make would be saved and could be altered without having to start from scratch when using a Live CD.
I therefore followed the instruction on the Ubuntu download page but have not been able to load 11.04 from the stick.
At the moment I have 2 laptops dual booted. One has windows XP & Lucid the other windows 7 and Lucid. Attempting to load 11.04 on the stick only results in the usual Grub options but there appears to be no option that would permit booting into 11.04.
I have my Boot Sequence set as : Removable, CD/DVD, Hard Drive & finally Network so I really expected that the USB would have been read and actioned.
How can I boot 11.04 from the stick? Where am I going wrong ?

Touchpad scroll not working in 11.04 Natty
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 28, 2011
I couldn't figure out how to make scroll work on my HP Mini after upgrading to 11.04. It had always worked out of box before that. I found this year old thread after multiple searches so I thought I'd post it here for everyone to find easier.
solution is in link at bottom
Edit: See post 3 below.
double quotes and single quotes not working in 11.04
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 2, 2011
I am not sure If anybody has faced this issue, my keyboard is less responsive when pressing the double quote/single quote key, I have to press it twice for it to print the quote( and that too it prints some other data and not exactly a double-quotes). Initially I thought it was issue with my keyboard, but later I see that it is working fine in Windows XP. It looks some kind of setting issue. If you check the below two examples, example a) is the double quote printed in Ubuntu, it doesn´t exactly looks like a double-quotes and b) is the one printed in Windows.
Any idea what I am missing?
I am using 11.04
Export path with spaces escape characters and quotes not working Ubuntu 10.04
- date: February 3, 2012
Hi Linux Questions,
For some reason, escape characters and quotes don't seem to work anymore when trying to export a new path variable. Observe a few lines from my .bash_profile file.
export MCSA="$DESKTOP/GA\ and\ MCSA\ Projects/mcsa\ project"
$DESKTOP, $RCGSHARE, and $WORKSPACE all work correctly. They have no spaces
bash: /home/abhay/Desktop/GA\: No such file or directory
Now we'll try
export MCSA="$DESKTOP/'GA and MCSA Projects'/'mcsa project'"
:~$ source .bash_profile
bash: /home/abhay/Desktop/'GA: No such file or directory
Again, it doesn't work.
But the quotes and escape characters work when trying to access a folder directly! Look!
:~/Desktop$ cd 'Dec 2011 Tasks'
Video driver not working Ubuntu 12.04 32bit Desktop
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 22, 2013
Hello all. I have installed the above distro. However, when booting, all i have is a flashing screen !!! The processor is an AMD Athlon LE-1640 and SiS Mirage Graphics Driver.
First question: How do i stop from booting into the desktop environment to get the command line?
Second: What syntax do i use to drop the resolution to a lower one?
Third: If that is not possible; can i SSL into the OS from another pc to correct the problem as root?
Thanks in advance.
