jdk, java plugin and firefox problem
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 29, 2007
Hello everyone,
I'm running Fedora Core 7 and I've just installed jdk-6u2-linux-i586-rpm.bin from http://java.sun.com.
Then I just did that:
cd /usr/lib/firefox-2.0.0.5/plugins/
ln -s /usr/java/jdk1.6.0_02/jre/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
The plugin worked for konqueror, but not for firefox.
Does anyone know what the problem with firefox?

I followed this http://www.wikihow.com/Install-Oracl...n-Ubuntu-Linux. Java seems to be installed
Code:
[email protected]:~$ java -version
java version "1.7.0_45"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_45-b18)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.45-b08, mixed mode)
Code:
[email protected]:~$ javac -version
javac 1.7.0_45
The how to guide says to create a symbolic link to the file libnpjp2.so. The only problem is that file does not seem to exist in the directory /usr/local/java/jre1.7.0_40/lib/amd64/. Instead there is another folder called /jli which contains the file libjli.so. When i create a symbolic link to that file in usr/local/mozilla/plugins java java does not then work in firefox.
What have i done wrong?

Hi folks,
I only want to show a tiny obstacle to getting java running in firefox and how to overcome it:
Configuration:
Mandriva 2007 free
firefox 1.5.0.7
java jdk 1.6.0_01
I installed java and the plugin like described on many webpages (install by .bin, symlinking the plugin and so forth), nevertheless the java plugin test on
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml
failed constantly.
So I started firefox from a console and got:
Code:

I am runnung Ubuntu 13.04 64 bit version.
I would appreciate any suggestion on how to get java plugin running under Firefox. Any java plugin would be fine, not only Icedtea.
I have installed IcedTea plugins from the Ubuntu software center however Icedtea does not apprear in the Firefox plugin menu neither java is working. I have tried uninstalling and installing all java-related items.
Here are the alternatives that I have for Java:
------------------------------------------------------------
* 0 /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java 1071 automatic
1 /usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java 1061 manual
2 /usr/lib/jvm/java-7-openjdk-amd64/jre/bin/java 1071 manual
Thank you in advance.

Hello.
As usual, I am back again with an absolute noob question.
What I do is this.
1) Open website
2) Get error message that java update is not updated. To update java click here.....
3) Click and be redirected to java website.
4) Scroll down to java for linux.
5) Click download.
6) Ubuntu asks location to save the file.
7) Download complete and open the file.
From here on I am stuck. Coz after that I don't know what to click and am stuck. Help please!
I already have IcedTea plugin but it says that it is up to date.
Regards,
Paradoxcy.

[SOLVED] Getting Java plugin to work on CentOS 5 Linux with Firefox 3.6.x
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 10, 2010
Just posting this because it was such a bear to find the right answer as so many sites had the wrong one. I'm hoping it might help someone else.
Over the weekend I wanted to install the Java plugin on my Firefox 3.6.8 (as installed directly from Mozilla Firefox download). I followed the instructions at the link below from Java's site:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/linux_install.xml
Which unfortunately were wrong regarding the file to link.
They incorrectly show creating a link under the firefox/plugins directory with:
ln -s <JRE>/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
On CentOS5 after installing the
ln -s /usr/java/jre1.6.0/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so
I also found that or variations on it in other web pages at Mozilla and around the web.
I finally found the correct file to link in this page:
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/ja...ux-136395.html
It shows that instead of the above:
ln -s <JRE>/lib/i386/libnpjp2.so .
On CentOS5 that was:
ln -s /usr/jav
