k3b seems to like my hardware so I am sticking with it. Can it be tweaked to handle MP3s?

k3b cannot burn mp3 files, to audio. k3b extracodecs are installed. Even reinstalled k3b and extra codecs. Unable to handle the following files due to an unsupported format:
You may manually convert these audio files to wave using another application supporting the audio format and then add the wave files to the K3b project. Ubuntu 12.04

[SOLVED] K3b mp3 conversion problem
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 29, 2008
hello all, i am having a problem with k3b, i am trying to burn some music that has been downloaded onto the hard drive. When you try to drag and drop the songs, i get an error that says the files have to be converted from mp3 to wave. there seems to be a converter built in to k3b, but i can't get it to work. you select the file to be converted and click ok and it says it was a success but nothing was converted, any ideas?

K3B mp3 support

Well the only topics I saw about k3b and mp3 support were in the archives. but since I ran into this problem and the archives didn't help me, I figured I would post how I got it working.
Problem: I Can't burn audio cd's with mp3 files in k3b.
sudo apt-get install libavutil49
sudo apt-get install libavcodec51
sudo apt-get install libk3b3-extracodecs
I needed libk3b3-extracodecs wich needed libavcodec51 which inturn needed libavutil49.
Maybe other people will already have codec 51 and codec 49 and only need to install the extracodecs.
Now you should have no problem burning mp3's
Well hope this helps some one along the way.

this must be the ...th thread on K3B, but the reason why I start this now, is because a lot of threads have "solutions" in the first post that don't work (anymore) or are too hard to follow. usually a better/simpler solution comes up later in the thread, but doesn't appear in the first post, so a lot of people end up doing the wrong/difficult thing first.
this is a collection of all the last options I found in various K3B threads, and I will try to update this as long as I can, adding the info from newer posts into this first one. oh, and I am using Kubuntu Dapper.
