KDE and "jitter", etc in online games
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 21, 2011
i recently did a reinstall of slack 13.0 after a hard drive toasted itself.... before the crash, i would play bzflag online, and occasionally get bounced for jitter, like once in 10 times online, usually when i had something else going on in the background. after the reinstall, i was getting bounced constantly. just to see if it had something to do with kde using up lots of cpu time, i switched to xfce. big difference, the game runs as smooth as glass, and no more getting kicked for jitter, or lag, or any other glitchy behavior. so while i use kde to get work done, i will set up a "game" user that runs an xfce session for playing bzflag. i might also try that for running virtualbox, since VB needs lots of memory and cpu time...

Kde & Crossover/Crossover games menu entries
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 31, 2010
I recently installed KDE on my Ubuntu install and quite like it. Not bad considering I hated KDE 4 when it first came out
Anyway I have noticed an issue with the KDE menu. I have both Crossover and Crossover games installed and only ONE of the menu entries is accessable.
They both show but the submenu for Crossover games doesn't expand. I checked with the menu editor and the entries are there, they just don't show.
Both menus work perfectly in Gnome.
Any ideas? It's more annoying than anything but I would like it fixed
Lag spikes in online games [Dlink DWLg112 C1]
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 21, 2009
I'm getting crazy, TF2 is my absolutely favorite online game now. And by solving this issue would make my experience much better.
I have nice broadband, and I get NO lag spikes under wired gaming. However, when i'm on wireless. I get the dreaded lag spikes.
Under windows, this was solved by shutting down Windows wireless service thingy, and then starting it again. This got all lag spikes to dissapear. So now I know it's not the fault on the router or my Wireless USB adapter.
Is there a similar solution for ubuntu?
I'm using the funny little network manager icon. Or what's it called.
DO NOT SUGGSEST GO WIRED. I simply can't.. not my apartment you know.
So, if it was fixed on windows, how do I fix it in ubuntu?
Can't connect to multiplayer online games and sop (sopcast).
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 21, 2012
Hi, I'm running Ubuntu 10.04.
Generally, my internet connection works well but I can't connect to multiplayer online games (flash) and sopcast player (a software for watching football broadcastings) doesn't work (always tries to reconnect).
I have no idea how to debug this problem. Can anybody tell me what to read or to do in order to solve it?
What information should I provide to make it clearer?
Note that I have two different laptops on the same network. One of them runs Ubuntu (my primary machine) and the second one runs Windows. I have no such problems on the Windows machine.
UFW is turned off.
This is the first post of mine. Sorry if I'm doing something wrong.
What are some fun multiplayer online games?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 20, 2011
I saw in another post the game minecraft but it is not free. I am looking for something similar where I can play multiplayer and spend some time. I would also like to host a server if thats possible, if not it's ok too.
