Surfing without KDE etc.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 25, 2002

Not inside some OS GUI like KDE or something, just bare bones surfing.
A Kernel, a root image, and a graphical surfing interface.
Can anyone help?

KDE/CUPS printer slow to start up; fixed with "127.0.0.1 localhost" in /etc/hosts
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 5, 2005
I was going to start a thread about how frustratingly slow it was to print stuff from my KDE (Mandrake) system. Every time I tried to print (from KWrite, Konqueror, or any other KDE program, really), I had to wait 20 seconds before my computer found my printer and said, "Okay, I'm ready. What did you want to print?"
I also had a complaint about KDE being slow, so I posted about that, too. One of the responses was to make sure that the file "/etc/hosts" contained the following line:

Sound in kde games run under gnome desktop?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 23, 2003
Hello everyone -- I'm a relative newcomer to Linux, running Ximian Desktop 2's version of Gnome as my primary UI on RedHat 9.0. I cannot get KDE apps' (oh, okay, I confess, KDE games....) sound to work when running under Gnome. If I start a KDE login session, sound works just fine.
I've had other problems with Gnome's esound server, so I don't use it -- I just use OSS. I suppose the KDE apps are looking for the aRts sound server and give up on sound when they don't find it. Is there any way I can get KDE games to bypass aRts and use OSS? Is there some other sound system that runs under Gnome that can supply a sound system interface the KDE apps will use?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer!

Writing my first Slackbuild and cannot add an entry to KDE games menu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 2, 2009
I believe that I have all the necessary bits and pieces, the Slackbuild works, but I can't get it to add a KDE menu item for the program.
I have a program.desktop file and it has been added to /usr/share/applications. I have a program.png added to /usr/share/pixmaps, I have a doinst.sh but I have no idea if it is running or not.
These are all the files
