[SOLVED] Lubuntu Alien Arena wont start
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 7, 2011
Hello, I have built a Lubuntu 11.10 VM (Virtual Box) to play games in on my work laptop and after a bit of searching I decided the Alien Arena would be a good place to start as it had the single player mode. I failed miserably to get playdeb to work so simply got the version from the repository, loaded up fine no complaints and I excitedidly plressed the icon in the games menu ..... nothing, nada niet :-(
Surfed the forums for a bit and found this was a reasonably common issue but no real resolution was forthcoming. Anyone got any ideas?
mysql wont start
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 19, 2013
mysql was working fine. I had to reboot the server, and mysql didnt load.
I did /etc/init.d/mysql start
Rather than invoking init scripts through /etc/init.d, use the service(8)
utility, e.g. service mysql start
Since the script you are attempting to invoke has been converted to an
Upstart job, you may also use the start(8) utility, e.g. start mysql
start: Job failed to start
I did mysql -u root -p
ERROR 2002 (HY000): Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (111)
(2 -> No such file or directory ) comes from the fact that you have no mysql server running on localhost.
(111 -> Connection refused) shows that either mysql port is blocked (firewall for instance) or that no mysql server is running on
I have been trying to figure this out for a day now without any luck. I have tried several things that is posted online.
It just doesnt work.
please advise. Thank you.

My xorg.conf as following:
## xorg.conf (xorg X Window System server configuration file)
# This file was generated by failsafeDexconf, using
# values from the debconf database and some overrides to use vesa mode.
# You should use dexconf or another such tool for creating a "real" xorg.conf
# For example:
# sudo dpkg-reconfigure -phigh xserver-xorg

SSHd wont start after recent update.

Updated two SSH packages today and now SSHd wont start.
Worked fine an hour ago, and I'm still logged onto the server via pre-existing SSH sessions, but now I obviously cannot start new ones.
:~$ sudo /etc/init.d/ssh start

eth0 wont start with boot process
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 13, 2004
Hi, lately I installed RH9...rh9 has old kernel and thus it was not able to install my integrated 3com940 network card right away. After I updated kernel to newer version I was able to install card.
Installation instructions told me to unpack the tarball... and then "make load" and after that "ifconfig eth0 up".
After that process rh was able to detect network card in network wizard and I was able to enable it. But my problem is that every time I make restart the eth0 wont come up. I have to make "make load" in that dir again and after that reenable it in network wizard.
I really dont know where to start, any help appreciated...
"Neverwinter Nights" wont start after upgrade to 64bit Debian Wheezy
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 8, 2014
I have run Neverwinter Nights, Diamond edition with the downloaded Linux binaries, on 32bit Debian Squeezy.
After a repartition, reformat, and fresh install, upgrading to 64bit Debian Wheezy. I tried launching the game from a terminal. The game resets the resolution to 800x600 and then stops with the following error message in the terminal.
X Error of failed request: GLXBadRenderRequest
Major opcode of failed request: 134 (GLX)
Minor opcode of failed request: 1 (X_GLXRender)
Serial number of failed request: 37
Current serial number in output stream: 38
Restoring the resolution is easy with "nvidia-settings".
I have tried running " # export LD_LIBRARY_PATH=./miles; ldd ./nwmain", but none of the libraries are listed as "not found".
I have multiarch installed by default (I believe)
I have no ideas left and google did not help.

Samba4 wont start after domain provision on Saucy
- date: December 31, 2013
Problem: The samba4 package appears to be broken or at least lacks support for AD DC hosting. The samba service will not start after domain provisioning. After much searching I "think" this is broken due to a bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+s...4/+bug/1244031. Does that sound right?
Here is a rundown of my testing:
System: Fresh Saucy server running in a vm
I'm following the official wiki instructions for implementing a samba 4 AD DC: http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO
samba is installed via "sudo apt-get install samba4"
:~$ samba -V
samba: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libwbclient.so.0: no version information available (required by /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/samba/libauth4.so)
:~$ smbclient4 -V
I attempt to provision the domain
sudo rm -fr /var/lib/samba/private/*
sudo rm /etc/samba/smb.conf
sudo samba-tool domain provision --use-rfc2307 --interactive
here is the outpu
