10.04LTS vs. latest version
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 30, 2011
I'm not to clear on the difference between LTS versions and other versions, but think I may want to go with LTS. Can someone tell me if my thinking is correct given the following situation:
I have some very cool, but very expensive software installed with a group license from my school, a school which I am not going to be attending for too much longer. So I want to go as long as possible without reinstalling Ubuntu, because once the product is licensed it will be licensed until I reinstall Ubuntu (or I uninstall the program). So I think this is going to require me keep the Ubuntu version I install as long as possible.
So in this case, should I go with 10.04LTS or should I just install Natty Narwhal and keep that as long as possible? It looks like 10.04LTS will be "supported" longer, but I'm not exactly clear on all that "supported" entails. Presumable it means security and software updates will be available for 10.04LTS for much longer than 11.x ver

how do I download latest version of Scibuntu with Ubuntu 8.04 LTS?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 14, 2008
Latest versions of Scibutu reportedly reside at sourceforge.net. However, dowload instructions do not work. I contacted the project leader and he replied in Swedish, but I dobn't think he told me how to do the download. I went to the Scibuntu support forum and someone else had posted same problem last year and there was no reply to that posting.
Scibuntu reportedly contains chemistry and biochemistry related programs.
Updating R to the latest version
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 19, 2012
I want to update R on ubuntu to the latest version (which at the time is 2.15.0). The version included in the Ubuntu Oneiric software repos is 2.13.0. I tried adding a CRAN source to my software sources as described here, but after doing so and running apt-get update and apt-get upgrade, R is not upgraded to a new version. I can't find any information about a PPA for R either. Any advise is appreciated.

How to upgrade Firefox, but not to latest version?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 15, 2011
I'm using Ubuntu 11.04. I have Firefox 3.6 on the machine and want to upgrade to Firefox 5. I don't want to go all the way to the latest version (FF 6) because it doesn't yet support some of the add-ons that I want to use. Can I use the package manager to upgrade to version 5, and if so, how?
Thanks, - Dave
How to install latest version of Firefox on CentOS
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 20, 2007
I'm trying to upgrade my current version of Firefox 220.127.116.11-0.1 to the latest version available. I downloaded and gunzipped the tar file, but I'm not sure what to do after that. I'm having trouble finding installation instructions from Mozilla (though I'm probably just not looking in the right place). How can I got about installing this latest version of Firefox?

Latest Version of VirtualBox Kernel Errors on CentOS 5, i386
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 30, 2008
Hello everyone. I installed VirtualBox on my CentOS system as an alternative to Xen.
However, when I tried to run it from the .run file it got an error. I got the .rpm file, thinking maybe there was an error with the .run file on my system. The RPM installed fine. I made a 10 GB Virtual Hard Drive and targeted my image: ~/iso/dfly-1.8.1.iso
When I tried to run the machine, however, I got a message that the VirtualBox Kernel had not been setup.
