How do I image an OS Hard drive with a Knoppix Live CD and dump that image to new HD
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 12, 2013
I'm a complete newb to Linux though I have some basic experience with Solaris. I have an OS image on an external drive that was made (by someone else)with one of the utilities in Knoppix Live. First, I'm not sure how to look at or identify this image so that I am sure that I am dumping the correct image from the source drive to the correct destination drive. I'm not sure what utility to use, like dd or partimage. Second, I need to know how to dump this image onto another drive. If someone could tell me where I can read about how to use dd and partimage on the Knoppix Live CD, that may be all I need. Also, I have been doing some reading and I'm not sure dd is the correct utility to use since it can affect the usable size of the drive. Maybe a partimage tutorial or step by step would be helpful.
How to make a knoppix live CD?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 16, 2005
I am interested in making my own Live CD out of my Knoppix 3.7 installation. I followed the procedure outlined here:
which was made for Slakware. I installed busybox-1.00, ovlfs-2.0.0 and squashfs-tools. Then I used linux-live-4.2.4 scripts to create the live CD for kernel 2.4.22 and RaiserFS and also for Ext3 system. I was able to make the live CD, but when I start it it tells me:
Warning: Unable to open an initial console
and stops there.
Is there any simmiler scripts for Knoppix?
[SOLVED] How to mount a 1TB USB external HD on Knoppix (live CD)??
location: linuxquestions.com - date: December 22, 2010
This is my story.
A friend of mine had a (horrible) accident with her laptop, to the point she will buy a new one. But she would like to recover as many information as possible.
So I get my knoppix live CD (wich has saved me before).
This is my problem.
My friend borrowed a 1TB USB external HD, and knoppix doesn't mount it.
I've tried fdisk -l and I get
Newby help configuring Linux Defender Knoppix Live CD and how to burn a boot CD....
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 21, 2006
I downloaded the Linux Defender Live CD iso and burned it. It boots great and all but is not configured to actually do anything. They must have thought I knew something.
Anyway I think It can be configured the way I want, then re-burnt with the new configuration.
It is Knoppix Bit Defender (the newest version i think)
1. It needs my windows XP NTFS files to be able to read/write the NTFS partitions. It says to load these files but it will not do it from the CD. I need to locate them in a mount point/folder it can read from the KLBCD I think.(My old Knoppix live CD reads NTFS but I didn't configure it myself also this one suggests compressing the files to a floppy but a lot of machines don't have floppy drives anymore)
2. It needs better network compatability or adapter drivers or something. (My old disk works with more different adapters than this new one)
3. Is Samba the best for networking in the knoppix? (It is what I use on the old disk)
4. Any other help or config

Knoppix Live CD + DD command to the rescue...
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 12, 2012
So I recently moved to a new apartment. I'm unpacked and everything seems to be OK. Suddenly my PC would not boot into Win 7. I tried the Win 7 install DVD and that didn't help either. I had Win XP Pro on another HD and Ubuntu v11.04 on yet another. I tried loading Win XP and it took 2.5 hours to get to the login screen. Uh-oh it might a HD problem. Oh noes!!!
I rebooted and loaded Ubuntu with no problem. However, Ubuntu stated it wanted to check my HDs, which I let it do. It said there was trouble with one of my drives. Oh noes!!!
I was able to download and run a Seagate diag. tool which confirmed that my Win 7 HD had bad sectors. The same diag. tool helped me remedy the problem temporarily but suggested that I get the drive replaced. I got the drive replaced but what about my Win 7 install, my games, my customizations, my data, and my wife's work etc. I don't have Symantec Ghost. Oh noes!!!
Knoppix Live CD to the rescue!!!
I did a Google search on the Linux
Can the Knoppix Live CD provide the Hardware list ?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 2, 2005
I am about to download KNOPPIX for some work here.
I have a friend who has a donated PC, without any clue about the details of the Hardware.
Moreover, the BIOS is locked, and is set to First Boot from the CD, so I can use Knoppix to detect all hardware.
My question is.....
Will Knoppix provide the List of the Hardware he has?
Please tell me how do I access the Service from the Knoppix Live Cd.
Never used Knoppix.
I am trying to use Knoppix to detect the motherboard, so we can find a manual online, and Reset the BIOS.
KNOPPIX Live CD

My monitor does not support resolution higher than 1024x768 and I guess the default resolution for live KNOPPIX CD is higher than this. As a result, my monitor goes out of range when I insert the live CD and run KNOPPIX.
Is there anyway to overcome this problem?

location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 25, 2013
I made a CD of Knoppix_V 7.2.0CD Live CD (2013-06-16-EN.iso (Read Only)
But I can't seem to figure out how to get to a GUI Desktop. I tried the http://"http://www.linuxquestions.or...-help-819706/" "Cheat Codes” if that's what their called; ... menus that appear when I boot the thing.
The md5sum was checked and OK.
Any help would be appreciated.
I'm running Deb 7 in 'bare bones' mode.
