[SOLVED] Seeking: memory test software for Ubuntu 12.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 1, 2012
My desktop is freezing a lot(*). I have googled some answers and most of them pointed to memory problems.
Previous versions of Ubuntu (in Grub) had a memory test option, I think but since 11.04 I have deleted the windows partition and alocated all disk to Ubuntu so, I have no Grub anymore.
I looked for memory test through Software Center and I have found Systester Pro for US$2.99 Not much but there are no avaliations and no developer website. I could not know if it even could work for what I need.
There's another one, the Thorough real-mode memory tester aka Memtest86+.
I tried it but I did not found any user manual even in the developper's website.
The more close to it I have found was here:http://www.virtualbroker.org/como-te...-no-linux.html
As it is written in Portuguese I'll show the output:
1) $sudo apt-get install memtester (it was installed already)
2) $sudo memtester 4000 5 (I have 4Gb RAM 4x1024=4096Mb)
Using Knoppix to Test, Diagnose & Benchmark

In Windows I use a program called Sandra by SiSoftware to discover all kinds of information about computer systems, to dignose problems, identify hardware and benchmark and do burn-ins. I'm interested in doing similar things with Knoppix. Please help me use Knoppix to do some of the things I use Sandra on Windows to do. To start:

What testing and benchmarking tools should I be aware of?

how to use usb memory stick w/ knoppix
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 23, 2006
I've got a usb memory stick (FAT32 format) but I don't know how to access it. I'm using knoppix installed to the hard drive, and when I insert the stick, nothing seems to happen. I don't see any icons on the desktop for the usb stick or anything like that.
I want to use the stick to transfer files between my Linux laptop and windows xp desktop computer (if I can learn how to use Linux well enough then I'll install it on the desktop).
How do you access the usb stick using Linux? I'm assuming you can use such sticks with both Linux and Windows XP machines.
