Knoppix CD not booting
- date: January 19, 2007
I have a CD containing a version of linux called Knoppix (ver2.78) which I used to boot and run on the firms laptop, but I was just getting into it when early retirement struck and the firms laptop went with it. I'd like to boot and run the CD on one of my PCs to continue where I left off but it doesn't happen. One is rather ancient (I built it in 1998 and it's still running windoze of that vintage) but the spec is still above the minimum requirements stated by Knoppix. It nearly boots then shuts down, the last lines reading:-

My other PC is more modern, I bought it used on ebay and it runs WinXP ok, but doesn't seem to want to boot Knoppix beyond " Scanning for harddisk partitions and creating /etc/fstab...

Knoppix 3.6 Not Booting Up
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 17, 2005
I have just downloaded Knoppix 3.6 from linuxiso.com. I burned it to a CD and poped it into the CD-Drive (Duh...). I restarted my computer, entered the bios and set it up so the CD-Drive stats first (Duh...). Then I restarted once more. When the Knoppix main menu poped up I hit enter (which I think I amd suppost to do to start it) and is started loading. Then a back screen starts up and I waited for 15 minutes and it still would not start up.
Does anyone know what the problem is?
[SOLVED] Xubuntu/Ubuntu not booting after kernel update
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 30, 2013
Edit - Actually, my mistake, simply a blank USB stick in there that meant it was trying to boot from that rather than from the HDD.

Custom image not booting properly
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 11, 2011
I've tried building two different custom images using kvm-qemu, one Centos 5.5 and one Ubuntu 10.10. Both work fine in the kvm environment. However, when I try to boot them under UEC, they don't start properly. My cloud is based on 10.10 and here's a representative console output.....

Ubuntu Desktop not booting
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 10, 2011
My computer has been working fine since the release of 11.10. Today it suddenly will not boot. I get to the grub menu and select the default entry. The I see the usual error (error: sparse file not allowed). This is normal, as I am using btrfs for /boot.
Then the screen goes blank (monitor says "No video signal").
Booting into safe mode works, except that the option "netroot" does not give any network access.
I used boot-repair and made this boot info script: http://paste.ubuntu.com/765970/

New UEFI laptop, 64bit install, not booting windows from grup
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 21, 2013
I just brought home a new ASUS R500A (UEFI) Laptop and after much finageling to figure out how to bot from a thumbdrive and numorous failed attempts to install 12.04.2 32bit I finally got 12.04.2 64bit to successfully install.
Only one problem, I can no longer boot into my windows partition nor can I invoke the system recovery via F9 at startup.
I attempted several boot-repairs and Now I'm out of ideas.. I do have a pastebin of the last boot-repair output, I hope someone can help. I have an RMA from ASUS in case I have to send the machine back for a full system reset, but I would like to make sure I've exhausted all options first.
Please have a look at the output from boot-repair, I hope it helps.
PS there are three partitions owned by windows, The OS partition, the recovery partition and a system image partition. I can mount all three in linux and I can see that they are all intact as far as I can tell. I don't know if that helps at all.
