ssh Write failed: Broken pipe
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 29, 2010
My env is Debian squeeze with v2.6.32-5.686 kernel, and ssh 5.5p1 Debian 5+b1 openssl 0.9.8o. The os is installed on virtualbox 3.2.10
I keep getting `Write failed: Broken pipe' when logining to debian box. After searching on the internet, most people suggest change .ssh/config by adding ServerAliveInterval parameter. However, several values has been tested e.g. 30, 50, 120, but none of them prevent from this occurred again.
Is there any good way to test what might happen behind e.g. network, etc.? Or anything I can tune?
I appreciate any suggestions.
Open ports for ftp, ssh and webserver
location: linux.com - date: December 17, 2010
I'm looking for the code to open my ports from my ftp, ssh and webserver to the internet.
I've tried several things but none of those worked.
I'm running my ftp, ssh and webserver on a virtual machine on my laptop.
I think the ports are 21 (ftp), 23 (ssh) and 80 (web server)
Can someone help me?
Help with Ubuntu server remote ssh and local network ssh issues using putty.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 17, 2012
I have recently installed Ubuntu Server 12.04 on my home server. There are 2 issues that I am trying to solve.
First of all, I am having trouble connecting using Putty on my Windows 7 machine on the local network. I can, however, connect locally using my laptop which has Debian 6.0.4 and it works great so I am sure that I have the ssh server up and running on the server machine. The only 3 lines that I changed in the sshd_config file were "Port xxxx", "PermitRootLogin no", and "X11Forwarding no", everything else is default.
In Putty I enter the local static IP (which I set) of the server and the port which I am now using after changing the sshd_config file. I also set the correct auto-login username for the server. When I try to connect, it gives me: "Putty Fatal Error: Network Error: Connection Refused"
Also I am having trouble connecting remotely from my laptop with Debian 6.0.4 on it. I did enable port forwarding on
How to set up ssh to allow users to ssh into the machine
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 1, 2009
This is my first attempt at setting up a server. I have just installed Ubuntu Server 8.04 fresh from the CD. I have a fixed IP address. I just cannot seem to be able to ssh into the darn thing.
From a Solaris unix box, I get the message
"Local: Bad packet length 1349676916."
From a SuSE Linux box, I get the message
"Read from socket failed: Connection reset by peer"
From a mac box, I get the message
"Connection closed by 'IP address'"
I can ssh out to another server just fine. I don't know what to even do.
Can’t start Xserver in remote ssh session – X11 forwarding problem ?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 29, 2009
I’ve recently loaded Ubuntu 9.1 server and installed the desktop.
I have a Radeon HD 2600 PRO video card and I managed to get the GUI working after installing the latest Catalyst 9.10 drivers (ati-driver-installer-9-10-x86.x86_64.run) and
following the guidance of http://wiki.cchtml.com/index.php/Ubu...allation_Guide.
Everything apparently works as it should on the server. The desktop is displayed as expected and all apps work.
However, I want to run a secure remote desktop from my Acer 8930 laptop using Windows Vista Home Premium within my local network.
Following the advice in http://digitizor.com/2009/03/01/how-...dows-over-ssh/ I have loaded Xming and putty on the client and openssh-server on the server.
I can use putty to open a ssh terminal session and successfully logon.
My problems start when I “startx -- :1”.
My log is as follows:
X.Org X Server 1.6.4

[SOLVED] ssh X Cannot open display
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 26, 2012
I have two computers: A and B. I can use ssh -X from A to B, but not in the other way. I get the message:
Could not parse arguments: Cannot open display
Both computers are running Debian squeeze 2.6.32
and in /etc/ssh/ssd_config I have
Any advice is very welcome.
Thanks in advance.
SSH Connection Refused
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 3, 2005
I'm new to the whole SSH thing, and I can't get it to work. I've googled left and right, but haven't found any answers.
I am trying to get SSH to work just between two Ubuntu desktops on a local LAN. sshd is running, and I use firestarter and have port 22 open to SSH, and everything else (like pinging) between the two computers works. But when I try:
or any variation thereof, I get the message:
ssh: connect to host 192.168.1.101 port 22: Connection refused
and exactly the same when I try from the other computer to this one. Any help would be appreciated.

The server (natty) hung for anywhere from a few minutes to as much as maybe an hour (I'm not sure). The syslog shows some errors I can't make heads or tails of, they're attached in the hopes they make more sense to someone else.

ssh logout cause 403 forbidden errors!
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 11, 2011
i have strange problem on my wordpress-powered blog.
while i'm connecting to server by ssh or physical console, everything works fine.
however, when i tries to logout almost immediately 403 forbidden error pops up on every pages of my website.
if there are two or more connections (like physical console and ssh terminal), terminate one of them does not cause 403 forbidden.
but it shows 403 forbidden error page right after i terminated all connections.
i can find two types of error in apache error.log while it shows 403 forbidden page.

(13)Permission denied: /home/user/.htaccess pcfg_openfile: unable to check htaccess file, ensure it is readable
(one strange part is my DocumentRoot is /home/user/www not /home/user)
i gave 755 permission to all files and directories in DocumentRoot(which is /home/user/www), but still apache show me the forbidden error page right after logout.
i use ubuntu 10.04 lts and i use ap
