Kubuntu same as Ubuntu plus KDE?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 23, 2009
If I install Ubuntu, and then install KDE to it, is the result the same as if I had installed Kubuntu in the first place? Or is there a difference between an Ubuntu install with KDE and a Kubuntu install? And is one better or more efficient than the other?
I have the same question about Linux Mint and Linux Mint KDE.
I haven't actually started using any of these yet, or even downloaded them, but I will soon.
Thanks to anyone who can clear this up for me.
Is Cmd Prompt the same as Ubuntu Terminal?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
I'm sorry if this is a simple question:
I want to swap from ubuntu to windows for my web dev (personal preference). I'm used to using the terminal in ubuntu and the commands there and I was wondering whether the command prompt in windows is the same? Do the commands do the same?
If not, is there a way to get a terminal for windows the same as ubuntu?
is .bashprofile the same as .bashrc in ubuntu
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 6, 2009
I am trying to add export PATH=$PATH:directory to my .bash_profile. I am not able to find .bash_profile. Is it the .bashrc? If not do I need to create the .bash_profile and if so where?

There's no 32-bit

Linux Mint 13 KDE vs Kubuntu 12.04: Is Mint KDE really better?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 17, 2012
Hello everbody,
I'm trying to convert someone to a *buntu and I think KDE would be really perfect for him. However when I tried Kubuntu myself it ran decently, but I got a lot of crash reports etc. Also I read a few Kubuntu 12.04 reviews and they didn't seem to be really good either... Also a lot of people say Kubuntu is a bad KDE distro and much worse than the other *buntus. However most people seem to be really excited about Linux Mint KDE edition (which is based on Ubuntu, not Kubuntu).
So my question is: "Is Linux Mint KDE (as of version 13) really better than Kubuntu 12.04?"
I'm also looking at Cinnamon (which I'm probably going to "use" instead of KDE, if Linux Mint KDE is just as worse as Kubuntu). I myself am happily using Unity (it fits me just right), but I think maybe Unity is a bit to confusing (global menu bar, to distinguish running programs and closed programs in the dock etc.). However I myself am really fond of the search functionality and I woul
Ubuntu + Kubuntu + Xubuntu + edubuntu + Ubuntu Server
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 20, 2006
Hello everybody.
I have a question. Can I install ubuntu and then install
kubuntu, xubuntu, edubuntu and ubuntu server on top of it?
Please note I don't have a internet connection and I can't use synaptic. I have the CDs for all the above mentioned.
I tried
sudo aptitude update
and
sudo aptitude install kubuntu-desktop ( for kubuntu)
but it tries to connect online and doesn't ask for the CD.
I also tried doing it using synaptic by adding the kubuntu to repositories. But nothing seem to work.
Please point out if I am doing anything wrong.
The settings in synaptic seems to be ok.
Please let me know how I can do it?
Eagerly waiting for a response.
Warm Regards
Looking for Gnome Shell 3.8 desktop with easeofuse and polish as Ubuntu
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 31, 2013
Hi, I had Gnome 3.8 installed with Xorg 14 on Ubuntu-GNOME (13.04) but it was missing features like pressure sensitivity and the lead dev told me that will only be available in Saucy Salamander as custom patches conflict with that feature. I'm going to try Saucy daily but I need something stable for everyday use also. I specifically need Shell with version 3.8 or higher as older releases had bugs that would make my system ultra-laggy. So is there any Ubuntu-like distro with great ease-of-use, just-as-good fontset, and easily installable multimedia support? Thanks.

Differences between Kubuntu/Xubuntu/Lubuntu/Ubuntu?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 18, 2013
I have been using Ubuntu for a few years, but aside from a little bit of playing around it's pretty much the only Linux based OS I have used. To my understanding, Xubuntu, Kubuntu, and Lubuntu are just Ubuntu with different desktop environments and default applications. The Lubuntu page on the Ubuntu wiki specifically says that, and that it shares Ubuntu's repositories. However, to my understanding, Kubuntu has its own repositories. Is this correct? Is there any way to access Ubuntu repositories on Kubuntu and vise versa? And what about Xubuntu, does it share repositories with Ubuntu in the same way that Lubuntu does?
Secondly, are there any differences between Ubuntu, Kubuntu, and Xubuntu besides DE and default applications (and maybe different repositories)? Is installing Ubuntu, then installing kubuntu-desktop/xubuntu-desktop/lubuntu-desktop the exactly the same as installing Xubuntu/Kubuntu/Lubuntu and then installing Unity?
Thank you.
