evolution contact sync via ubuntu one
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: September 28, 2009
I recently upgraded to karmic and now there's this new option in evolution to sync contacts with couchdb/ubuntu one. has anyone tried this feature and could tell me how it works, if at all? currently i'm unable to create a contact in this adressbook, probably because ubuntu one is not ready yet?
any further info would be appreciated...

NVIDIA ION LE Hardware acceleration on HP/Compaq Mini 311?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 13, 2010
Hi all,
Yesterday I figured my netbook was better off with the all new (and hopefully improved) Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook remix instead of the preinstalled WinXP SP3.
Installation was actually a breeze and almost everything works just fine out of the box. Almost....
The HP/Compaq mini 311 has the NVIDIA Ion LE GPU and should be able to play h264/MPEG-4-AVC without a hitch. In fact, it worked perfectly well under WinXP. Well, under Ubuntu it doesn't (tested with same files as under XP), so I pretty sure there is something wrong with my configuration/drivers.
It looks like MPlayer and VLC (the players I tested) both only use the CPU and do not benefit from the ION LE hardware accelaration. (low bandwith files play just fine, high bandwith result in 100% cpu use and choppy playback)
What did I do:
Installed ubuntu-restricted-extras
Deinstalled nouveau drivers
Installed NVIDIA Linux drivers
What am I missing? Do I need to install additional drivers/software? I read someth
Ubuntu 12.10 Samba an LDAP: Failed to contact LDAP server.
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 20, 2013
Hi Linux Professionals,
I'm a new member here and I am also new to Ubuntu Linux.
I'm trying to set up a Domain Controller in Ubuntu Server 12.10. I have successfuly followed the setup guide for Network Authentication in Ubuntu Server Guide, already configured OpenLDAP (https://help.ubuntu.com/12.10/server...ap-server.html) and Samba and LDAP (https://help.ubuntu.com/12.10/server...amba-ldap.html) so far but got stuck along the Samba Configuration, while including an existing LDAP user:
~$ sudo smbpasswd -a user1
got this response -->
Failed to issue the startTLS instruction: Can't contact LDAP server
New SMB password:
Retype new SMB password:
Failed to issue the startTLS instruction: Can't contact LDAP server
I got no idea as to where I may have not configured or needed to configure.
Any idea or advice will be highly appreciated. also, if there was previous thread posted regarding this problem, kindly redirect me.
Thank you so much in advance. Hope you can help me with this.

Nvidia 6200 LE need X86config example
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 9, 2007
I've got an Nvidia 6200 LE I just put into a box that I installed KnoppixMythTV onto. The result is a dark-green display during X. I can't find any kind of configuration tool within Knoppix (Debian) to create a proper X86config file. Does anyone have a sample for this video card?
Eventually, I'll run this through TV-out, so it would be even more helpful to have a copy of the X86config that works for that. But for now, I'd be content to just get normal VGA working.
Any help appreciated. I'll be checking this post forever until I get this problem fixed, so don't think your response will be in vain.
Appreciatively,

Are there (here) Linux users without prior contact with MS Windows?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 3, 2010
It was always why did You switch from there or that.
I wonder are there (or better yet here actually) Linux users, that where never 'tainted' with the proprietary infamous operating system?
I mean those who never *switched*, but had either both or saw Linux first (before MS Windows).
How do they perceive Linux?
We , the ones coming from <put whatever You come from here> , are inevitably biased, carry a background noise and a "whistle" fading in our ears.
I know computers from the days they came without operating system (just mere interpreters upon a BIOS stack) and really do appreciate the ways of *NIX.
But I see my kids growing and exploring all kinds of "solutions" and OS-es and they have mixed feelings:
1. They are not bothered if software "looks" alike if it is functional
2. They like certain features on either sides and miss where they lack
3. They, above all, appreciate functionality
4. They miss gaming support on
please wait...
