Asus Transformer Prime vs Note/Netbook
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 12, 2012
I'm looking at getting a tablet or laptop for college(University) starting in this fall semester.
I'm trying to compare Pros and Cons of the Asus Transformer with a dock vs. a similarly (650$) priced notebook/netbook at about 13 inches in size. (Although I've also looked at Macbook Pros and similarly priced laptops as well)
My dorm room will have it's own desktop supplied by the University with tons of software they have, and I also have a 17 inch i7 laptop. I figure any powerwork or paper typing can be done on these.
For the tablet/netbook I am planning on mainly doing notes in class, mainly with Evernote, and a handwriting app if I get the tablet.
I won't be buying for another 6 months, probably sometime around late July.
Any pros/cons that you guys could suggest would help me a ton with research.
Thanks!
(oh and I'm majoring in Computer Engineering btw)

LG G2 not showing up. I can't backup my data.

I attach my LG G2 phone to my computer to rsync my data.
At first, Lubuntu pops up the normal "Open folder to view files" prompt.
I select the "Open folder to view files and it opens a verizon wireless section I've never seen before.
I select MTP sync on my phone to connect it as a media device.
Ordinarily, I would then see two more prompts to "Open folders to view files" but nothing else shows up and the verizon partition disappears.
This is what I get before and after I plugin the device:

LG G2 vs980 not recognized by ADB devices command (Win7 on virtualbox)
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
I have been developing android mobile apps via eclipse in school for some time now, deploying the apps to virtual devices. However, I now want to deploy them to my LG G2 android device for testing and speed purposes. I know there are posts about other devices not working, but the solutions are to no avail for me.
I am on virtualbox running windows 7. I have the necessary vb extensions installed and vb DOES detect my LG G2 (asks to view folders..etc), however eclipse/adb on my vb cannot find it still.
I have put what I thought is the proper device vendor id (1004, 0232) in the adb_usb.ini file since some others found that to help get their device detected.
I have done the commands adb kill-server & start-server many times. I have restarted the phone and vb also. I have also tried all of the phones connection types (internet/ethernet, MTP)
Some help would be awesome,
Thanks fellas

Ubuntu 12.10 Cinnamon vs Mint 14 Cinnamon
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 1, 2013
I'm switching from a Mac to Linux and am still in doubt as to which flavour I'm going to be using.
Ubuntu seemed like the obvious choice but after trying out several distros (many of which Ubuntu based) I decided that Mint Cinnamon was going to be it.
Until I found out you can install the Cinnamon desktop on ubuntu. Which I tried.
Hmm. It looks equally nice as it does on Mint but still, I've got the impression it runs just that tiny bit better on Mint (i.e. more fluid - and I tend to ditch something at the first sign of even the slightest hint of 'jerkyness').
Ubuntu would seem like the logical step when coming from a Mac : it's the most popular distro out there and the Unity interface in some ways is very similar to OS X. But, I have to say, I 'dislike' Unity with a passion (not going to use the word 'hate', seems a bit too strong - it was OK I guess in 12.04, terribly slow in 12.10). Mint Cinnamon touched me right away (although I'm currently trying out OpenSuse 12.3 KDE and I must

Just when I was about to install Ubuntu, I had a "why not look at Mint" question thrown at me. The reasons, my friends said, is that the Mint desktop (Cinnamon) is more like Win 7 plus the fact that Ubuntu has "lost its way" like Microsoft did with its illegitimate child Windows 8, in trying to be both Desktop and Tablet Operating System. True or False?
Background:
1) I am a Desktop only user - for business, no gaming whatsoever
2) I never have used the Windows Start Button except to shut down the computer. I never start programs from the Start Menu. I Do Not Need a Start Button.
3) I prefer to organize my icons with a program called "Fences"; and would like my Taskbar on the bottom of the screen(s) and absolutely not on the side of the screen
4) I need to network with Win 7 workstations and a file server.
Questions:
1) Which of the two is here to stay in terms of user acceptance and support: Ubuntu or Mint?
2) Which of the two is faster? Ubuntu or M
