Python error log location
location: linuxexchange.com - date: March 12, 2014
I am developing a python application on flask framework. And I use .wsgi to deploy it. I got confused by error log locations. It looks like Python errors and debug information are put into different log files.
First of all, I specify both access and error log locations in the apache vhost file.
CustomLog /homedir/access.log common
I also know there is another apache error log, /var/log/httpd/error_log. My access logs were printed into the right place, /homedir/access.log.
But, error log looks weird. The Python errors, like SyntaxError, uncaught exceptions went to the log file specified in vhost file (/homedir/error.log). But, any log messages generated by python logging module, went to the "default" error log (/var/log/httpd/error_log).
Can anyone explain why this is happening and how to fix it? I want these two logs go to the same place.
Thanks for the comments. Here is the
Shut down error log location
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 27, 2005
When I'm shutting down I get an error message that I would like to take a closer look at, but how? It seems that nearly every event is logged, such as the boot activity, etc.
Is there something similar to dmesg but instead of the boot up log, it displays a log of what happens when it shuts down?

Location of MySQL Error Log Files
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 14, 2009
According to multiple books, the default location for the error logs in Linux is in the data directory. In the case of Ubuntu, this location is /var/lib/mysql and the file should be called <host>.err.
This is indeed not correct, since the only mysql error file I can find is mysql.err which happens to be located in /var/log
So both incorrect file name and location according to the books.
Furthermore, by default, error logging is enabled when you install MySQL, but the error log file in /var/log is empty, even if I executed a DROP USER noneexistinguser; which resulted in an error.
I added log-error=/var/lib/mysql under [mysqld] in my.cnf and restarted the MySQL server, but yet there are no .err files created in that directory whenever I execute something faulty in MySQL, nor is something showing up in the mysql.err file.
Could someone be so kind and enlighten me.
Define the location of Java fatal error log in runtime
location: linuxexchange.com - date: February 24, 2013
is there any way to define the location of the fatal error logs in Java (hs_err_*.pid.log) in the runtime?
I know from that I can set the location as parameter, but I want to change it in runtime.
where is the mysql error log
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 29, 2010
I can't seem to find where mysql error logs are kept. I've generated a few errors and then checked /var/log/syslog, /var/log/mysql.log and /var/log/mysql/error.log and didn't see mysql errors in any of those files. The 2 mysql files were empty and I didn't see any mysql errors in syslog.
Here is the what the logging portion of my.cnf looks like.
# * Logging and Replication
# Both location gets rotated by the cronjob.
# Be aware that this log type is a performance killer.
# As of 5.1 you can enable the log at runtime!
#general_log_file = /var/log/mysql/mysql.log
#general_log = 1
log_error = /var/log/mysql/error.log
# Here you can see queries with especially long duration
#log_slow_queries = /var/log/mysql/mysql-slow.log
#long_query_time = 2
# The following can be used as easy to replay backup logs or for replication.
# note: if you are setting up a replication slave, see README.Debian about

Samba Error Log
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 29, 2010
Does anyone else have the message "Unable to mount location - Failed to retrieve share list from server"?
If you do, could you please check your logs and see if you also have these errors?
I haven't read the trouble shoot guide like it suggested yet because I figured its good to post here first to try and get a solution, and because its almost 1000 pages! If I find the solution to this before someone is able to answer I'll post it.
Also, is this a bug that needs to be filed or has already been filed?
Cheers - CC7

Apache error log not updating
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 4, 2009
Help needed relating to apache error log not updating on error in php script.
Location of the log is:/usr/local/apache2/htdocs/error.log
On starting apache, there are some entries in error log like:-
[Tue Aug 04 09:56:43 2009] [notice] Child 2040: Acquired the start mutex.
[Tue Aug 04 09:56:43 2009] [notice] Child 2040: Starting 250 worker threads.
But,on testing the php pages,if any error is encountered, the log is not reflecting the script error.
Fixing errors apache error.log
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 28, 2010
I have been tackling all the errors the keep poping up in my apache error.log
I have searched for information but all i get is matches to people with other problems that i am not having but have this in ther error log.
[Mon Dec 27 20:59:10 2010] [notice] Apache/2.2.14 (Ubuntu) PHP/5.3.2-1ubuntu4.5 with Suhosin-Patch configured -- resuming normal operations
This is my error I get. I'm not sure what is really causing it. At this moment I have no errors with anything that i am doing on my server. aka nothing appears to be broke.
I'm just attempting to fix a potential problem before it arises.
Thanks for your time
