First hard reset required ever in Linux (11.10)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 15, 2011
After using different distros for years, today I had to do my very first hard reset from an OS freeze. This is from a fresh install of Ubuntu 11.10 after configuring how window tiling works (compizconfig-settings-manager). I'm not even able to ctrl-alt-F2 to another TTY. Completely frozen.
I do not like the direction Ubuntu is going (bulky, hardware intensive, and unstable), and I hope the recent stability problem is because 11.10 is new and needs more bug fixes. If that's the case I may give Ocelot another chance.
Does anyone else feel Ubuntu is less reliable now than it has been in the past?

therubyracer (0.8.0) error on Ubuntu/Linux 11.10
- date: November 5, 2011
I am running the latest version of RVM on Ubuntu/Linux 11.10. I just tried installing a project in it's own gem set using rvm use [email protected]
_project --create. Then I ran gem install bundler;bundle install and got the following error.
I have had this error before, I have tried sudo apt-get install g++ build-essential but had no luck. I also tried installing libv8-126.96.36.199 libv8-dbg libv8-dev and still had no luck. Could this be related to Ubuntu 11.10? Does anyone have any suggestions?

[SOLVED] java and "app inventor" vs. Linux Mint12 (Ubuntu 11.10)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 10, 2012
Neither "java" nor "app inventor" are specific to any distro or even linux. Regardless, I cannot get "java" running in ways that satisfy the "app inventor" pages.
Can anyone help me sort this out?
I'm running Linux Mint-12 (Ubuntu 11.10) and have all of the various java packages installed. I'm trying to use the Chromium browser with MIT's "App Inventor" tools for building Android apps. I need something really trivial on my 'droid, and App Inventor seems a light weight approach to doing a prototype.
Thanks in advance,

I have a dedicated 32bit Ubuntu server setup with the Nuxeo Document management platform installed with the Postgres 9.1 DB. All installs were done with apt-get.
Based upon all of my research, Postgres installs working with localhost. This is fine for Nuxeo, however, I want to do some table and trigger work and as such have been trying to configure postgres to be accessed remotely.

all of the various solutions regarding enabling access to postgres discuss modifying two files:

I have followed all of the tutorials regarding the modifications, even resorting to the "all open" approach to get it working. However, when EVE

I have it to understand that Ubuntu 11.10 uses the 3.0 Linux kernel.....
So, why aren't there any howto's or talk about it here in this forum? It's six months later....
