is there any linux command to download files from any ftp site remotely
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 29, 2003
I recently came to know of the command wget used for remotely downloading data ie even when the user is logged off.But i could see that it did'nt work for sites. The same links when provided in the internet browser was successful & file started downloading. It also worked in Linux Download managers like Prozilla but not in wget.Though the anonymous user logs in successfully the download does not start or sometimes the error like
"No such file or directory"
too appears. Please provide a solution to this problem.

Steam for Linux failing to Download/Install Ubuntu 13.04 and 12.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 10, 2013
Hi, I am a gamer that usually has to boot into windows to game, Since this new Steam for Linux, ive been trying to install it! I am not a noob (relatively) But i havent been able to find a solution anywhere. When i try to install it begins, attempts to download gets to about 250kb out of 2.5mb and then gives me this error : "Failed to Download package files. Check your internet connection" Although my connection is fine, So i try to download the .deb directly and it fails. And in terminal with
sudo dpkg -i steam-latest.deb
. Any ideas? I thought a dodgy repo but when i
sudo apt-get update
it completes with no errors.

location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 12, 2007
At http://download.helpdesklive.info/ you can find installed VDI images ready to run for easy tests in VirtualBox.
I don't know if it is a good idea to offer installed images.
Also i think is a good idea to upload Alfa & Beta releases to can be easily to test, so in a short time all i386 Gutsy Herd 2 will be uploaded .
Pleas let us know if is a good idea to let this page up or not.

Linux mint: Automatically download & install updates
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 9, 2011
I installed Linux Mint on friends computer, & I desperately need it to automatically download & install updates. Please don't tell me the dangers of auto updating, I've been using Ubuntu for quite a few years now with never, ever a problem with updates (I'm not flaming, just telling you my experience).
I followed these directions:
But it still is showing the blue icon only informing me updates are available:
The reason I'm want to auto download & install is because like every other average computer user, her brain is like a turnip when it comes to computers (no offense to anybody or my friend), & sometimes I don't see her for a year or so.
Is there an easy way to automatically download & install updates in Linux Mint??
New to linux, struggling to download google chrome help please?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 20, 2011
I got an Acer Aspire Netbook, which runs Linux and I'm at a total loss when it comes to downloading things.
I'm used to using windows, and so it may simply be my total unfamiliarity with Linux, but anyway I am trying to download Google Chrome (the Netbook is already running firefox, and I prefer to use chrome)
Could somebody give me basic instructions as to how I would go about downloading it?
When I try to download it, it selects " 32 bit .rpm (For Fedora/openSUSE)" and then I clicked accept and install, and then it says "open with software installer (default)" after I click ok it runs but then I get this message: "error resolving dependencies. Unable to resolve dependencies for some packages selected for installation"
I would really appreciate it if somebody could help me resolve this matter, and give me step by step guidance of how to install chrome.
Or if I can't download chrome, could somebody please explain to me how to get the lates
Unable to successfully boot from Puppy Linux 4.3.1 iso image
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 30, 2009
I tried booting from Puppy Linux 4.3.1 iso in VirtualBox.
When it comes to setting up the Xvesa screen, I get a terminal window with the following messages:
(To Shutdown PC type "poweroff", to reboot PC type "reboot")
This script will run X windows for you...
Starting X with video mode 0x0111 and mouse input/mice...
This keep repeating continously. In between it shows the X window screen with X and then back to the terminal window.
Looks like it is stuck in a loop. It keeps doing the same thing again and again.
I have had Puppy Linux 4.3 successfully install in VirtualBox, but since there was an SFS issue in installing OpenOffice, which i get was fixed in 4.3.1, I am trying to install 4.3.1...
Thanks for all the help I can get... in advance.
