Linux routing problem
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 6, 2013
I'm having a problem using Linux (CentOS 6.3) as a router that I've tried to outline below. Goal is that computers on LAN2 should be able to access the internet with the Linux server inline acting as the router between LAN2 & LAN1. I don't want to NAT LAN2 to a pool of addresses in LAN1, I just want to route through the Linux box and have the cable modem perform NAT through its outside interface.
Any help is appreciated as I've been banging my head on this for a while now.

Linux Volume Problem
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 11, 2010
I have searched and searched through the forum but, finding the solution seems impossible.
My problem is that the output volume on my PC speakers using Linux seems extremely low compared to that found (heard?) in my Windows partition.
30% volume in Windows is equal to 50% in Linux from the external microphone recording tests I ran.
Is there any way to fix this problem or can it be that my sound card (SoundMAX) was fine-tuned by the manufacturer (HP) for Windows?
I have seen this problem come up in posts from the days of Ubuntu 7.10 but not later; they all had responses saying to edit the settings in alsamixer, but some said not to trouble the PCM others said to set it to maximum.
What should I do?
Linux dns problem with comcast
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 10, 2004
I have two linux boxes and a windows 2k box connected to a motorola sb5100 cable modem via a linksys wrt54g router. Up until yesterday all the systems connected to the internet fine. Yesterday, the linux boxes stopped working with the comcast dns servers. I connect via DHCP. I have the exact same dns servers listed on all the boxes. The win 2k machine still works fine. I can reach ip numbers on the linux boxes but not the web names. I have tried to get comcast to help but they won't talk to you when you say linux and never let you talk to anyone who could actually help! My two linux boxes are running the following OSs: Knoppix 3.4 and Suse 8.0. The Suse box confirms on boot up that the personal firewall is not on. I can ping the comcast dns servers as well as my router and other outside ips!
Is there something I am missing here? I have tried the power off and cycle of all the components involved. Is there something comcast could have done to their dns servers to mess up m

linux os problem on dell laptop
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 14, 2012
im new to the linux operating systems, i have dell inspiron 1545 laptop with no os installed, recently i downloaded and installed ubuntu 11.10 32bit on it and started to have problems just right after finishing the updates, when i try to shut it down it restarts, when i try to connect to my wireless network it doesnt connect, when i try to edit my account preferences like automatic login but it doesnt work, the lock icon dimmed, i tried all suggestions around the net and the terminal stuff but nothing worked, then i said ok lets try linux mint 12 64bit "as mint sounds fresher than ubuntu lol" but after installing it i found out it has exactly the same problems.
so what is the problem?
is it my dell laptop that doesnt like the linux os's ?
or the linux os's got some common and permanent issues in them ?
are there real solutions for these issues?
