Best software for an old system running Antix linux
location: linuxquestions.com - date: November 4, 2012
Hello, I have a few old laptops and want to set them up for my kids, and just as a spare laptop.
They are pentium 3, 500mhz, 600mhz and one is 700mhz. They have either 128mb ram or 256mb.
I want to put some games and fun stuff on there for my kids and maybe me too. I have small kids and have the childs play, gcompris, tux type and tux paint for them. What else could I run on there? Those all run fine.
Also, what other must have software can run on an old system like that. I have the standard set of antix software loaded and running and it all seems to work.
Thing is, I don't want to try 50 different games only to find out 3-4 work. So do you guys have a list of games and other software that will run well?

Best Linux Desktop environment for gaming?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 5, 2013
Hi everyone...So I know that Ubuntu, Debian, and Arch are pretty much the way to go if you want the best gaming support (Steam). However what would be the best DE for gaming, performance wise? I was thinking XFCE but people have been saying KDE and Unity because of something called "unredirect fullscreen windows" and that you can turn off "compositing". People have also stated that XFCE does not have this feature. What are these two things and do they impact FPS in gaming? (Again, what would be your best DE for gaming?)
What is the best graphics card at the moment for Ubuntu Linux?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 27, 2007
I've recently made the switch to Ubuntu 7.04 from Windows XP, and I'm sooo glad I did ! It's fantastic. Everything works as it should, except...
I have an ATI X1300 video card. From what I've read on other forums, that's not good, and I have had one or two problems with it with 3D graphics.
I'm a freelance web designer/developer and occasionally (when I'm not working) like to play games (Second Life and flight sims such as Condor mostly) and use other high-end graphics software. I need a card that will let me do my day-to-day work, and also have some fun!
Can anyone recommend a decent card? I know that I need an nVidia card, but which one? I'm running an AGP system.
Any recommendations would be appreciated!
