Linux AMI Error: sudo: must be setuid root
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 9, 2012
I am using Amazon Linux AMI. I do not have password of root. I am just a user.
I was executing commands using sudo. It did not ask me any password and command was executed fine.
Ex- sudo rm -r /home/username/directoryname
or sudo yum install software-name
and it was working fine.
But unfortunately I have set permission of /usr/bin is 777 (drwxrwxrwx).
that is why permission of /usr/bin/sudo is become 777 (-rwxrwxrwx).
Now when I am using any sudo command , I get an error
Code:
sudo: must be setuid root
The changing permission of /usr/bin will solve the problem but I am not able to change the permissions of any file. when I use chmod to change it,
it says:
Code:
chmod: changing permissions of `filename': Operation not permitted
and when I use sudo chmod
it says :
Code:
sudo: must be setuid root
I do not have root password. even I am not permitted to see root directory.
Please solve this problem. I am not able to execute any command now.

grub error "Linux kernal must be loaded before initrd"

Hi folks,
I've done a search in posts & FAQ for help on this... there are plenty of similar questions, but none that quite match my situation.
"Error 19: Linux kernel must be loaded before initrd"
I'm trying to configure a second linux OS on my PC and have installed it on an a logical ext2 partion in my extended partition.
Having gained some insight into GRUB configuration, I cant seem to come up with the correct declaration in my /boot/grub/menu.lst
In my primary partitions, I've got:
(hd0,0) for my windows (ok)
(hd0,3) for my knoppix (ok)
The new PCLinuxOx, is already installed & ready to boot in an extended logical partition (hd0,4)
However, telling my grub where it is is fine, but getting it to boot there is not :-(
Here's what I've got in that grub-menu file...
### KNOPPIX... working
title Debian GNU/Linux, kernel 2.6.16-beyond4.1 Default
root (hd0,3)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz root=/dev/hda4 ro ramdisk_size=100000 lang=us apm=power-off nomce vga=791

I'm new to linux so please have some patience.
I'm trying to get tinycore linux to boot off of my hardrive. The way I understand this is that it's not seeing the kernal but it does see initrd. This is my menu.lst
default 0
timeout 10
title tinycore
kernel /boot/bzImage quiet
initrd /boot/tinycore.gz

Hi All,
I am new to linux. What I need is- I need such a linux os that can boot from CD as well as from hard drive(Logical partition). In case of booting with hard drive there will be dual boot with Windows-Vista or with Windows-XP.
For above purpose after some googling I found that PUPPY-linux can be booted from CD and from hard drive. I followed the link- (http://www.icpug.org.uk/national/lin...p01-4steps.htm) In this link there are some steps by following those I downloaded the .iso file of Puppy v.4.2.1(puppy-4.2.1-k2.6.25.16-seamonkey.iso). After burning it to a CD I am able to boot my machine with that CD an PUPPY linux runs smoothly.
Now I want to boot it from my hard drive. I followed the steps given there(http://www.icpug.org.uk/national/lin...ep3-puppy4.htm) and do all the changes in to menu.lst file as:-
title Puppy Linux 4.2.1
kernel (hd0,0)/puppy421/vmlinuz PMEDIA=satahd PDEV1=sda1 psubdir=puppy421 psubOK=TRUE
initrd (hd0,0)/puppy421/initrd.gz
boot

LXer: Linux Mint 6 Felicia Review : It Must Be Christmas

Published at LXer:
Linux Mint version 6 Felicia came out on December 15th and I have been running it on my Dell Inspiron 530 Q6600 system for the past week. I ran Hardinfo on the system if you want to see the specifications on the box. It is a quad core with 6 GB of RAM, so I was a little disappointed that the 64 bit version of Linux Mint was not released the same day the 32 bit version came out. Even though they have a 64 bit version of Linux Mint 5 Elyssa available I wanted to try out the latest version. Mint 6 is based on Ubuntu 8.10 Intrepid Ibex and uses GNOME for it’s desktop environment. For those who prefer a different desktop, community editions of Mint 6 featuring KDE, XFCE and Fluxbox should be out soon.

Error building cfcli: go build runtime: linux/386 must be bootstrapped using make.bash
location: linuxexchange.com - date: May 24, 2015
The CLI tool for Cloud Foundry available at cloudfoundry/cli is written in Go. I'm trying to build the CLI tool but getting this error:
go build runtime: linux/386 must be bootstrapped using make.bash
How to solve this problem?
Here are the contents of the cli/bin/build-all.sh script:
#!/bin/bash
set -e
set -x
OUTDIR=$(dirname $0)/../out
GOARCH=amd64 GOOS=windows $(dirname $0)/build && cp $OUTDIR/cf $OUTDIR/cf-windows-amd64.exe
GOARCH=386 GOOS=windows $(dirname $0)/build && cp $OUTDIR/cf $OUTDIR/cf-windows-386.exe
GOARCH=amd64 GOOS=linux $(dirname $0)/build && cp $OUTDIR/cf $OUTDIR/cf-linux-amd64
GOARCH=386 GOOS=linux $(dirname $0)/build && cp $OUTDIR/cf $OUTDIR/cf-linux-386
GOARCH=amd64 GOOS=darwin $(dirname $0)/build && cp $OUTDIR/cf $OUTDIR/cf-darwin-amd64
Everything works fine and gets cross compiled except for the line GOARCH=386 GOOS=linux, which produces this error:
go build runtime: linux/386 must be bootstrapped using make.b
please wait...
