location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 3, 2010
When I try to copy PDF files from one folder to another folder, it give me this error:
"Error while copying "2004-SNUG-Europe-paper_...log_DPI_with_SystemC.pdf". There was an error copying the file into /media/CCDCE66BDCE64F70/Backup Master/Heterogeneous_cosimulation/Documentation"
"Error splicing file: Input/output error"
What is the reason of this error and how can this be fixed?
Error splicing file: File too large
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 27, 2011
I am copying a file, which has a size of 4.1 GB from my home folder to my portable usb drive formatted as ext4. When copying operation, reach at 4.0 GB, an error pops "Error splicing file: File too large". I know, that this error usually comes when you copy a file greater than 4 GB on fat32 disks, which has a limit of 4 gigs for the maximum file size, but i have no idea, why this error comes, when an ext4 formatted drive can hold a file upto 16 TB of size.
Can anybody help? I am using Ubuntu 10.04.
"Error splicing file: File too large" Huh? is this Ubuntu or DOS???

I an a complete noob when it comes to ubuntu.
I use a laptop as a media server. It has one hdd that is partitioned.
When I try to copy a file from one folder to another, or on to a usb stick,I get the following error:
Error Splicing File: Input/Output Error
I have tried formatting the usb stick and trying different ones.
Now I can still watch media on my wdtv live media player, which reads from the media server ubuntu laptop acting as a NAS.
What can I try? ? Any tools I can download and check the disk?
Error: splicing file Input/output error while copying to external HDD
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 31, 2012
Every once and awhile I get this error while trying to copy things over to an external HDD. It's only certain (very few) files, but they won't copy to either of my externals. They always get hung up at the same point too. The files are varying in size too, and it's always video files. I don't think it's an issue of the drives being corrupt, because they work fine otherwise.
Any tips on this? It's driving me mad and it's really important that I have these files backed up.
Error copying from CDROM Error splicing file: Input/output error

On logging onto the forum today it says the last time I visited was July 31st 2007 - blimey - where does time go?! And wow, how everything has moved on, the latest version of Ubuntu with the Unity desktop absolutely rocks!! It will not be so long next time as I feel I am mature enough now to battle on with Linux with my personal struggles with it adapting from a MS world.. as the rewards are well worth it.
Everything installed beautifully with my new system, the only glitch I am suffering with is my DVD-ROM drive when on attempting to copy large files circa 100mb+ the process fails with the following error:-
Error while copying "PAK0.PK3". (loading PK3 files for IOQuake )
There was an error copying the file into /home/adrian/Desktop.
Error splicing file: Input/output error
Using the following command 'lshw -C disk' - I get the following information concerning my drive:-
description: DVD writer
product: DVD+-RW GSA-H53N

Error splicing file: File too large

After many problems, I have decided that I need to replace the hard drive on my laptop. I am about up to the ROOF with anger right now because throughout this process, there has not been one aspect of it that went right. Here are the problems I have had so far:
1. Windows would not boot.
2. Figured out, after a month, that there is a boot error code 0x45d which means I might have to replace the hard drive.
3. I tried using SMART utility to diagnose the hard drive, that didn't work.
4. I tried the disk utility that came with Ubuntu, and that didn't work.
5. I've given up at this point so I am just gonna scrap the hard drive whether it is bad or not since I am not going through loads of problems just to figure it out.
But enough of my ranting, here is what I came to this thread for:
6. I started to copy recovery files from a partition on my main hard drive to my external hard drive (here is where I am now). It stopped at exactly 4.3GB saying that there was an Error Spli
Error splicing file:file too large. WHAT is this weird error?

I have a portable drive where I save disk images. I successfully copied two Ubuntu disk images to this drive but get this error when trying to copy the Windows disk image folder:
Why is it talking about splicing it when I'm not trying to splice anything. I am trying to copy the folder from the desktop to this drive.
It's also not too big. The drive has 250GB of space and the folder is only 20GB.
Also note: I did not get this before when the portable drive was NTFS. But then I formatted it to FAT32 and get this same error on the same folder every time.
What's going on??
