Registering Keyboard events on C++, not cin >>
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 4, 2004
I'm making a program that will control a little camera as a security device. That is, the camera is connected to the computer using the serial cable, and it will receive things that way.
I want that the user can press the UP key and the camera will move a little up. I've covered the movement and data transmission stuff, so I'm bassically stucked in the C++ programming and registering keyboard events thing.
Backup/Restore from different database causing Restore failed exclusive access could not be obtained
location: linuxexchange.com - date: December 19, 2013
I have a database A. I have taken a backup of database A called A.bak. I created a new database B. Now, I right click and Restore B from A.bak. In the Restore Dialog, I checked overwrite existing database and change the LogicalFileName from C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SQLSERVER2012\MSSQL\DATA\A.mdf to C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL11.SQLSERVER2012\MSSQL\DATA\B.mdf and did the same with ldf file. But I am getting
Exclusive access could not be obtained because the database is in use.
ALTER DATABASE [B] SET SINGLE_USER WITH ROLLBACK IMMEDIATE;
Also sp_who2, there was no existing connection of [B]
Building a linux exclusive machine
location: linuxquestions.com - date: August 20, 2004
I'm a linux newbie looking to build a computer system to run exclusively under suse linux 9.1 personal. It will be used for internet surfing, word processing, multimedia (like burning cds, listening to music and watching dvds) and intermediate gaming namely ut2004. I don't have too much money to spend, around $400. I've been running around in circles trying to decide on what hardware to buy for it, mainly the CPU, ram and video card. ill list out my questions to make answering easier.
Is linux less of a resource hog than windows? If so could i get away with getting less advanced hardware?
which combination is better: faster processor/less ram or slower processor/more ram? (i know ideally that fast processor more ram is best; i just dont have a lot of money)
CPU: I'm having trouble deciding between the amd 2000+, 2200+, 2400+ and the 2500+ (barton core). Should i get a less expensive processor and use the money saved for a better video card or more ram? O
What is the best way to open a file for exclusive access in Python?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: October 9, 2008
What is the most elegant way to solve this:
open a file for reading, but only if it is not already opened for writing
open a file for writing, but only if it is not already opened for reading or writing
The built-in functions work like this
>>> path = r"c:\scr.txt"
>>> file1 = open(path, "w")
>>> print file1
<open file 'c:\scr.txt', mode 'w' at 0x019F88D8>
>>> file2 = open(path, "w")
>>> print file2
<open file 'c:\scr.txt', mode 'w' at 0x02332188>
scr.txt now contains '111'.
scr.txt was overwritten and now contains '222' (on Windows, Python 2.4).
The solution should work inside the same process (like in the example above) as well as when another process has opened the file.
It is preferred, if a crashing program will not keep the lock open.
Linux Exclusive Application Extrodinaire
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 27, 2007
Just curious what applications are one-of-a-kind on Linux. Most of the great applications I use on Ubuntu are also available on other platforms (Firefox, Thunderbird, etc).
What are the GREAT applications that you can find exclusively on Linux (and there really is no alternative that is available for other platforms)?
Capture mouse and keyboard events and in C# and “prevent system propagation”
location: linuxexchange.com - date: June 16, 2012
I'm searching a way to detect mouse and keyboards events in C# and read them (cursor position + key strokes). I read lot of "keyboard hook" stuff, but my problem is that I want to capture these events and then "neutralize" them, I don't know how to say it.
Something similar to what Virtual Box do: it intercept mouse and keyboard and does not "propagate" them to the host system, so, for example, I can press CTRL+TAB, intercept it and prevent windows switching dialog to popup...
Obviosly I will define a special key (RCTRL for example) that let me stop the hook, elsewhere I will never get control back to host :)
Track keyboard and mouse events in C on linux
location: linuxexchange.com - date: March 18, 2013
How can I track the keyboard or mouse events in Linux, in C?
Like for example if the user presses ESC Shift etc. I should be able to track it. Same way for the mouse. If the user moves the mouse or clicks left or right.
The implementation idea is to create a small screen saver with timer and I am struggling how to track the keyboard or mouse events to reset the timer.

Need to access Linux Mint command line through Windows
location: linux.com - date: December 12, 2011
Hello. I made a big mistake. I was compiling Blender on my Linux Mint. Because some packages were not on the normal repositories. I played stupid (mainly because I was being lazy). And I add the debian.org's repository. Which was really really stupid. Because now, by default the repositories were of debian.org . So when an error prompted on the update manager I restart with the command line and I did sudo apt-get update (again I was being an idiot because those were unstable packages) And I basically switched it all to debian's repositories (I am the biggest douche on the world). So long story short I can't even login to the command line on my Mint (11 Katya). So I am on my second partition (with Windows). Posting this. What I need now is a command line on Windows so I can solve my problem. Thank you so much! *facepalm*
