Hi,
my entire linux is slow, it is taking about 5~8 minutes to load the login screen, and more 3~5 minutes to load my account.
I have a Core i3 350M, 4Gb DDR3 dual channel, hd hitachi 500Gb.
running Linux Mint 12 64bits 3.0.0-12-generic
First I though it could be the distro I was using so I tested Mint 12, Mint 11, Ubuntu 11.10 and Kubuntu 11.04, and all of them run almost fine in live, and very slow when installed in hd.
running some tests I found that with my HD:

not able to run Linux for longer than 10 minutes

Hello
I’m currently running Linux Deepin 12.12 and Windows 7, both 64-bit. My Deeping crashes every time
after about 10 to 15 minutes: the screen is black and if there is playing music, it repeats the buffer for
a while and then it stops. The hard disk doesn’t work anymore, but the fans keep on working. When
I restart the computer, it crashes again, but faster. I have to wait for about 10 minutes before the
computer can start again. Windows has no problems at the moment, but during the installation, it had
the same problems as described above. When I start Windows immediately after Linux crashed, it has
a BlueScreen or it shuts itself down.
Ubuntu 11.10 extremely slow
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 16, 2011
Hi guys!
I upgrated Ubuntu from 11.04 to 11.10. However the new version is immensely slow compared to the previous version. Even by pressing the left button of mouse and drag over an empty space of the desktop I can notice that the "selection area" moves quite slowly.
I tried to move some windows, like firefox or any other, and this is really, really slow.
Basically it moves like 3 to 5 s after I moved with my mouse.
I thought that maybe it has to do with some compiz configuration so I played a bit there... but my interface "crashed" 2 times and I had to hard reboot (push button) since all the unity and my top bar disappeared.
What can I do to make it fluid like the previous version? I used to run totally normally under Unity 3d of Ubuntu 11.04.

Ubuntu 11.10 Software Center extremely slow.

Unlike others, my Ethernet drivers work fine. I get my maximum 16 mbit/s if I do a speed-test or just watch a 1080p video on YouTube. But what is really bugging me right now is the extremely slow speed of the Ubuntu Servers. If I download 30 mb of build-dependencies for ffmpeg it takes years. A normal update-check ($ sudo apt-get update) is also extremely slow and can take up to 15 minutes. Is this just me or are the servers overloaded, because everyone is downloading Oneiric Ocelot?

Linux wireless drops after several minutes on 12.10
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 9, 2012
Hi i'm relatively new to linux, I have used in it the past and had no problem. I recently got the new linux 12.10 and the only issue i now have with it is that the wireless drops out every couple of minutes, but still displays that the wireless in connected. I'm pretty sure that this is a software problem as i was running windows before and had no problems with the wireless card or the router.
Many Thanks

Extremely slow boot and shutdown and I have no idea why.
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 5, 2010
Hi everyone =)
I've been using Ubuntu for a few months now. I have the 64 bit version of 10.04. My issue is that when booting into Ubuntu, it's extremely slow. I'm talking minutes here. When I shut down the computer, the same thing occurs. Occasionally it won't even shut down but just hang. It may not be hanging, but after about 5 minutes I get tired of waiting.
I have no idea why this is happening.
Some other specifications that seem important are my system is set to dual boot along with Win 7 64-bit. The model of my computer is the Asus M50. Instead of copying all the specs, the computer can be found on Newegg here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-343-_-Product
I hope someone can point me in the right direction to solving this issue. I'm happy to cooperate with anyone who's willing to do so.
Persistent Live USB install Extremely slow boot time
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 13, 2010
Hi, I've spent the last 3 days solid trying to get a USB stick to work the way I want it and have run out of ideas.
The object of the exercise is to have a Live USB bootable stick running Ubuntu 9.10, but it also needs to be persistent.
I've tried a few different ways of running it.
1) From a ISO image burnt to a CD for a Live version - works fine, takes a couple of minutes to boot, but obviously no persistence.
2) Installing to 4GB FAT USB stick using the USB installer option after loading Live CD - again works fine, prompts for language just like the CD and boots in around a minute, again no persistence. Same method, but using the slider to use the spare space on the stick as a persistence file - works, but takes 8 minutes to boot.
3) Partitioning a 4GB USB stick in a variety of ways. All boot okay to Live version. Add in persistence and the boot time shoots up from less than a minute to 8 minutes.
As well as trying option 2), my preferred arrangement is to have the 4GB partit
please wait...
