Remove linux fix disk error
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 23, 2006
I need help with a problem. I will start from the beginning and explain what I did before everything.
I installed Suse linux 9.3 with GRUB about a week ago after I formated the windows partition. Some days ago I booted from a windows cd and removed the linux partitons and installed windows instead, because that was what I was planning to do from the beginning.
Now when I have installed windows "DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER" appears every time I boot. But when I use the windows xp boot cd it works and somehow can boot from the harddrive. I have tried "FIXMBR" and "FIXBOOT" but it won't work even if it appeared to be succefull.
Thankful for help, i've been sitting 5-8 hours a day the whole week. I most fix this. It's strange that it doesn't work even if I formated the partitions, it shouldn't be any data left there!
Games / 3D crashing in linux Fix
location: linuxquestions.com - date: January 19, 2008
Just wanted to post a solution I had to a problem I have been having lately since I installed my ATI All-In-Wonder X800 (AGP).
Whenever I would open an application requiring 3d rendering (quake 3, Wolfenstein, etc) the game would crash about a minute in and give me a sig 11 code.
I took apart my computer to realize I was running a 300 Watt power supply. I replaced it with a 500 watt and everything runs fine now (and the system is faster).
So if your getting random crashes (sig 11) from graphics intensive tasks. Check your PSU.

First Time Linux So Happy! One Question Before Youtube Upload(WMV) reduce filesize
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 19, 2010
Friends first of all THANK YOU!
I am using LINUX (Ubuntu Lucid) since past week and I am LOVING it!
I am first time linux user.. and have got answer to my any problem and questions
from this forum, wiki, google and other linux blogs and forums.. Thank guys for your
time and work to make this so awesome for new user to convert to this awesome OS!
I am posting this thread with a challenge I am having I am confident that you will
help me sort this out too.
I have these videos in WMV format which i upload to Youtube. I was using Camtasia,
to edit and convert into MP4 before uploading (on windows).
It helped me to reduce the 150MB videos to 50MB before upload and i was happy.
Now on Ubuntu I have tried many video editors but i am unable to convert the
video with quality and size...
If quality is good then size is very high.
If size is reduced quality is very low.
I know i am lacking good conversion command..so i am posting this with specifics
about the video.. would you please
Linking as in ln to fix Linux moved files/folders

Precise Pangolin ver. 12.04 LTS.
I found what may be a fix for a problem I'm having with a tv tuner. While I'm not a command line scaredy-cat, I am having some qualms about the fix I see. That's on page 17 of a forum post, viz.:
Linux DVB driver = success
There the discussion revolves around folders and files that were moved to new locations or reverting to an earlier version than the current one. For me that is: uname -r returns: 3.2.0-35-generic-pae.
To complicate my problem even more, I'm not sure why DVB matters. I live in the US and have ATSC. So if you know all the tech terms, you know what I mean by complicate. The network manager/tools cannot locate the device.
Can someone knowledgeable about the moving of the video drivers from one folder to another guess when the fix would be put right? I would rather update than mess with existing files myself. And once the fix is in, what happens to the code if I do edit my OS? Will the two come to conflict with each other? And if you
Using Linux to fix Windows
location: linux.com - date: May 31, 2009
I've got a friend whose install of Windows XP doesn't want to boot correctly. I often hear about magic Linux CDs that can boot any PC and fix it within minutes. Where can I obtain one of these and the skill required to use it effectively?
Is there a Linux App that can fix corrupt file system
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 15, 2012
I am wondering if there is a Linux application that can fix a file corruption issue I have. It is a FAT system on an SD card that I use in my digital camera.
The directory structure is still intact but when I try to enter into a directory with files through dolphin or thunar etc I get an input/output error.
If I navigate to the directory in terminal and run ls I get loads of lines with similar message
ls: cannot access /2M^iğL.▀m!: No such file or directory
I have tried running testdisk on it and also ddrescue but I cannot resolve the issue. Has anyone come across this before and is there a way to fix it?
