I am following the LFS guide 7.2 and I am at section 5.7. When executing the Glibc make, I receive the following error.
-o /mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-build/math/s_isnan.os -MD -MP -MF /mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-build/math/s_isnan.os.dt -MT /mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-build/math/s_isnan.os
../sysdeps/ieee754/dbl-64/wordsize-64/s_isnan.c:30:1: error: '__EI___isnan' aliased to external symbol '__GI___isnan'
make: *** [/mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-build/math/s_isnan.os] Error 1
make: Leaving directory `/mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-2.16.0/math'
make: *** [math/subdir_lib] Error 2
make: Leaving directory `/mnt/lfs/sources/glibc-2.16.0'
make: *** [all] Error 2
My GCC version is 4.7.2. What are the steps I should take to correct this error?
Learn Linux From Scratch?

Hi, I would like to learn almost everything I can about Linux now but not entirly sure where to start. I've looked at many sites about learning Linux but now seem to be a bit overloaded with info and so not so sure where to start.
I understand that there are a load of careers and jobs that can come about as a result of being experienced with Linux such as Linux Adiminstration for example.
I did come across a site called "Linux from scratch" which is do do with teaching you about how to actually build your own distro. But I'm still not so sure if that's for me.
So do you guys have any suggestions for where you would recommend a complete beginner to learn Linux?
Anyone using Linux From Scratch as their primary 'distro'?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 16, 2012
I've started going through Linux From Scratch, and it's actually not as difficult as I expected. I hope to have a working system in a week or so (just have an hour two every few days to work on it) then I hope to start tackling Beyond LFS to add more functionality to the system.
I always thought of LFS and BLFS as more of an experiment to learn Linux, but the more I get into it the more I'm really wondering if I shouldn't just scrap the distro and build my own system from ground up. Granted updates will need to be done manually, but keeping my head in the clouds will help in identifying which packages need to be updated due to security reasons and such since I'll know EXACTLY what's on my system.
Has anyone done this??? Just curious --

Anyone have any successful encounters with the book? I want to build my own Linux distro. Have an idea which I think is pretty cool, but want to setup and use it like crazy. I think other people will like also.

In terms of truly learning Linux, how is the "distribution" Linux From Scratch? Or should I just stick to Arch?

Has anyone had a go at the Linux From Scratch project? I'm going to give it a go and was wondering about other peoples experiences and time scales for achieving a working system.
I think it will be a good learning curve and hopefully provide me with a system that is perfect for my needs.
Has anyone ever completed Linux From Scratch?

I'm a little confused as to what the structure is supposed to look like in Chapter 5.
Where am I supposed to put everything? Like where am I supposed to put the Binutils and GCC directories/folders? I don't think the manual is too clear about that.
I've tried contacting the LFS people, but they don't respond.
Anyone have any advice?

On the computer that I am running the live cd, if I simply type in the download url it says that there is no such file or directory.
The computer is connected to both High speed ethernet and wifi.... so I know it has to be able to connect to the internet, but why cant i down load any of those files
