Have you bought a Linux game?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 11, 2007
I was wondering how many people are actually supporting Linux gaming by buying the few games that have been developed commercially for Linux?
From what I've seen, it's mostly the smaller companies that are building Linux games. These two are just what I remember off the top of my head.
I'm thinking of buying a couple and hopefully it will show these guys that it's worth writing a Linux port of a game.
What do you think?
NB I know that there are loads of opensource games available and I play a few of them..

Djl Linux Game Installer
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: June 18, 2009
Djl is an open-source (GPL licensed) game manager written in Python 2.5 for the GNU/Linux
Operating Systems. It is inspired by Valve's Steam software for Windows.
Djl makes it possible (via a repository) to download, install and remove a reasonable number
of games placed into a distrobution independent subdirectory (but without dealing with any
dependencies). It can also execute ,desktop shortcuts located in another directory....

location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 27, 2008
Published at LXer:
Linux Game Publishing, the company behind porting such games to Linux as Cold War and X2: The Threat, has prepared a new Linux GUI installer for its forthcoming titles. While this new installer doesn't feature any overwhelming additions, it has been written finally to use GTK2 and other new functionality for this setup utility. Linux Game Publishing announced this new installer on their closed beta mailing list yesterday for their X3: Reunion port. This new LGP setup utility will also be used in their future titles, and we imagine even Bandits: Phoenix Rising.

February 4th, 2011 Update
Things are standing still for the time being. I'm fathering two small kids and working so there really hasn't been much time to dedicate to this project. I have however been keeping my eyes open about the Linux game market. It seems a lot is happening with things like the Humble Bundle really kicking off. Maybe one day you'll see something from me along those lines, who knows. The dream of game making lives.
For those interested, the questionnaire I put up has now closed. The data can be found here. Anyone interested in it, should have a look.
November 30th, 2010 Update
I'm now exploring the possibilities of starting a company that would target Linux gamers (not a very competitive market at this time)!
Those who support the idea of gaming on Linux (instead of dual-booting), please answer this
quick questionnaire about games.
It is only ten questions, and will help me greatly in determining what my business plan ought to be.
