Joli OS and Linux Games plus applications question
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 1, 2012
im looking into getting Joli OS, i never had a blackberry or anything to do with apps and im very curious what its like, as i cant afford a new phone, joli os looks awsome since i can do it from my pc
And the fact that i heard it has local files, and synaptic, and all that cool stuff is excellent because it seems i can still do my general linux stuff
But heres the issue, i heard that you need a local operating system ontop of joli os, but im unsure
so like, if i get joli OS, i still want to use my linux apps, like rythmbox, secondlife, nvidia graphics drivers, pulseaudio
secondlife requires alot of the codecs that ubuntu installs on installation when u select add extras, and packages from ubuntu restricted extras, and nvidia drivers
But i have no idea how to set that up, so i thought id come here for advice. on how to go about using jolicloud as an OS and still using all my linux programs

The summer vacation is nearing for my kids. I'm looking for some recommended games and softwares for kids aged 4 to 8 years. I have never done this in linux before and I now want put my linux desktop into good use for the kids during the holidays.

> Any native linux games *
> Softwares that are both entertaining and fun to learn and use.
> Any other you may wish to add

Thanks for your suggestions.
Linux games/activities for really young kids (1 1/2 years)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 27, 2007
Does anyone know of good Linux activities for 18 month olds? He can move the mouse (poorly) and I'm sure he could master a couple of keys (arrows, spacebar, etc.) I think he's too young for the gcompis stuff still.
The things I'm thinking of right now are
1) A slideshow program that would let me record the people's names, so he'd see a picture of grandma and hear me say "Grandma" etc.
2) A music player that could be made to have huge playlist buttons (ie. the buttons are big, the playlist is short) so he could play songs
3) Video player similar to music player -- I'll grab some youtube videos of his favorite animals and make it so they play fullscreen.
Does anyone know of programs that would fit these needs? Any other ideas?
My 18 month old has been in love with computers since he could stare and drool. Now he's constantly hitting the keyboard and moving/clicking the mouse. Today he pulled our new MacBook off the table (no damage, phew!), and I decided

I'm about to roll out 30 Linux desktops at school, but before I do, I want to ensure that I have a full complement of Linux games.
I already have all the games which come with SUSE 9.3, if you are aware of additional Linux games / educational products which would be suitable for school kids grades 3 through to grade 12 please let me know. - Thanks Roly

jdodsons list of uber linux games!
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 16, 2004
this is to be a guide to games that i find to be particularly good that run on the gnu/linux ubuntu platform. not all games contained in this list are free as in freedom or cost, however many are. i will make note if the license is non-free and attempt to assertain the cost if that cost applies. if you want to submit a game to this list, simply reply to this thread and i will consider the game to be added to the list. this list is going to start small and grow, so dont expect it to be all encompassing early on.
this is not a wine compatable list, this is only for native linux games.
please submit games in the fashion that i describe them.
let the gaming begin.

Linux games and toys, get lost
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 22, 2011
Because I never see anyone else criticize their presence, I wonder if I'm the only one who has no use for games or toys, especially toys (which I suspect to be an indulgence of software designers) on any Linux distro. I could do without any games or toys. How about you?
List of upcoming commercial Linux games !

For the updated list visit :
In this thread I want to gather a list of upcoming commercial Linux games.
Why commercial ?
As you know free/open source is evolution therefore programs are never really finished, new versions being released every few months, so it will be very very hard to track and update every new game release - we have so many of those.
Games that are very likely to have a Linux client (pretty much confirmed)
01. Age Of the Decadence (A combat demo coming out soon)
02. The Broken Hourglass (Still in active development)
03. Disciples 2: Dark Prophecy (LGP haven't forgot about it).
04. Bandits: Phoenix Rising (LGP port)
05. Shadowgrounds Survivor (LGP port)
06. Unknown (after the excellent sells they had last week they will definitely make a Linux client).
07. Postal 3
09. Unreal Tournament 3 (Icculus is still porting it).
10. Heroes of Newerth (currently in closed beta, but wo
