Running in konsole I'm not being allowed to run either make or make install, both as an ordinary user and as root.
Any ideas why this is happening?

Make Make Install and Linux update

I am trying my hands new on Linux.
The following command is very useful:
sudo apt-get install <application>;
As it adds the application into the linux programs list and automatically upgrades it while running the update manager.
But I would like to get more knowledge on installing the programs from the .tar.gz archives as well.
So I do:
Extract the archive
I have two questions in this process:
1) I read in the forum that "make install" is not good if we are updating the binaries.
So should I just do "make" and the "install" ?
2) Second question is that is there a way to add the program installed in such manner to the Linux Software Update list so that I do not have to use the terminal for every new version that is released
Installed using ./configure, make, make install, how to remove?

I installed a particular item from source using the usual ./configure, make, make install.... How do I remove this particular item after installing?
What's the opposite of 'make install', ie. how do you uninstall a library in Linux?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: January 1, 1970
on a MinGW/MSYS system for a library I had previously run
'./configure --prefix=/mingw && make && make install'
I came across this message:
WARNING: A version of the Vamp plugin SDK is already installed. Expect worries and sorrows if you install a new version without removing the old one first. (Continuing)
This had me worried. What's the opposite of 'make install', ie. how is a library uninstalled in Linux? Will 'make clean' do the job, or are there other steps involved?
What should Linux/Unix 'make install' consist of?
location: linuxexchange.com - date: November 15, 2010
I've written a C++ program (command line, portable code) and I'm trying to release a Linux version at the same time as the Windows version. I've written a makefile as follows:
ayane: *.cpp *.h
g++ -Wno-write-strings -oayane *.cpp
Straightforward enough so far; but I'm given to understand it's customary to have a second step, make install. So when I put the install: target in the makefile... what command should be associated with it? (If possible I'd prefer it to work on all Unix systems as well as Linux.)
A Few Basic Linux Questions (Mounting ISO, Make Install, Etc.)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: October 25, 2009
For the most part I am able to find out how to do things on Linux. (I am on Linux Mint 7 Gloria)
Yet there is a few things I am struggling with.
1. Is there any way to make virtual disc drives where an ISO File can be mounted (similar to daemon tools lite on windows)
2. I am not 100% how make install works or how to use it. Any explanations, or links would be nice.
3. What Are The Console Commands That Everyone should know?
4. Is there any free E-Books on Linux or And Documentarys on Linux (Bedsides The Code Breakers & Revolution OS
Thank You In Advance. ^_^
Linux refuses to install?
location: linux.com - date: June 10, 2009
I've had no trouble installing Linux before, but lately, when I put in a LiveCD, it just stops loading it about halfway through. And by that, I mean, my whole computer becomes unresponsive.
My computer in a Compaq Presario SR5310F.
