How to securely share files over the internet from Ubuntu Server 12.04 to Windows 7?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 5, 2013
I'm really lost, I thought it would be really easy to be able to safely share files that are stored on my server over the internet, so that I can access them from anywhere. But it turns out it's almost impossible! I've tried OpenVPN multiple times, Openswan and even ownCloud, but I couldn't get them to work (except for ownCloud, but I disliked it). Am I missing something? Do any of you know an easy way to share files securely over the internet?
This is what I want:
- To be able to access my files through Windows Explorer (i.e. be able to map the shared folder as a network drive in Windows)
- To be able to open the files directly, without having to download them first (as is the case with a FTP-server), so I can stream my music files
- An encrypted connection, so noboby can intercept the data I am sending to and receiving from the server
This is what I have:
- A fast internet connection (100mbit)
- A Ubuntu 12.04LTS Server
- Two laptops running Windows 7 - t

How to upgrade Citadel on Ubuntu Server Edition 12.04 LTS?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 18, 2013
I have a Ubuntu 12.04 Server Edition in production with Citadel as mail server. It runs well with heavy traffic so I am afraid to mess with it. However, there's an annoying bug in the Citadel version that comes on 12.04: The "Delete" button in web mail doesn't delete messages but only hides them until you refresh. On the Citadel version coming with 13.04 this is fixed. I would really like to be able to upgrade Citadel, but when I try I run into dependency problems and it won't install. I was wondering if anyone here could help me find a way to get a newer version of Citadel installed on 12.04 that doesn't include building it on the server something I would rather not do on this particular system.
Install Driver for Netgear WNA1100 Ubuntu Server 12.04

I recently purchased WNA1100 WiFi Adapter for my Ubuntu Server 12.04 Box. Now since I'm a new to it, i'm unable to install the drivers for it. I found that it uses Atheros AR9271 chipset and downloaded a "htc_9271.fw" file from http://linuxwireless.org/download/htc_fw/1.3/. But don't know how to proceed to the next part. Can you please help me?
sources.list incomplete on new install of Ubuntu Server 12.04.2 x64
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 13, 2013
I'm very new to Linux and I've just spent a very frustrating few hours trying to figure out a problem with a fresh install of Ubuntu Server 12.04.2 x64 on a HP Microserver. The install itself completed ok, once I'd figured out how to make it work from a USB flash drive, but after the system was up & running I couldn't install any software using sudo apt-get install. After much head scratching and internet searching, I discovered that the /etc/apt/sources.list file seemed to be incomplete. I used http://repogen.simplylinux.ch/ to generate a sources list for the UK and 12.04 LTS and when I added these to my own sources.list file, I was then able to properly update & install the software i needed.
So my question is; Should the sources.list file not be complete with the correct entries for the installed country and version after a fresh install, or have I done something during the installation that has caused this problem. I had a fair bit of fiddling about to do to make
Ubuntu Server 12.04.3 LTS Install Failure
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 28, 2013
I am attempting to install Ubuntu Server 12.04.3 LTS on an old Dell machine that has been wiped. During the "Loading Additional Components" portion of the install, it fails to read a file and cannot complete. I ran the "Check Disc for Defects" option and get:
file failed the MD5 checksum verification. Your CD-ROM or this file may have been corrupted.
I am installing from a USB drive. I downloaded the 12.04.3 LTS 64-bit from http://www.ubuntu.com/download/server and created a bootable usb disk using Universal USB Installer 184.108.40.206. When that failed, I tried creating it with Unetbootin. When that failed, I tried a different USB drive. When that failed, I redownloaded the whole thing and tried all of the above again. I have consistently gotten the same error on every attempt.
At this point I can only think that Ubuntu has a corrupted file for download, unless someone

Install openfire 3.7,1 on ubuntu server 12.04 64 bit
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 1, 2012
Hi all, what I want to do is install openfire from deb package on my ubuntu 12.04 server 64 bit. Openfire basic, with no plugin installed.
Here list of way that works for me:
1.Install java (I use sun java 6 update 32 binary package 64bit)
I'm following this article
run the script, wait (if you want you can open another terminal session to know what process running)
cause in my case the first step is the longest one (downloading about 300 library package)
If the script success in creating package, then you could run apt-get
# apt-get install sun-java6-jdk
Then check the java & javac in terminal.
# java -version
java version "1.6.0_32"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_32-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.7-b02, mixed mode)
# javac -version
if the output looks like above (or another variant, depend on your installed java version) then java package
Grub2 fails to install on Ubuntu Server 12.04 with RAID5 + Encrypted LVM
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 23, 2012
I recorded my complete installation until failure: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVe5vja3keo
During partitioning I created a software RAID 5 volume spanning three identical disks. On that volume I created an encrypted volume, which I created an LVM inside containing two logical volumes inside a volume group. One logical volume for /boot and one for / (the rest):
When it is time to install Grub to the MBR I get the error Executing grub-install /dev/sda failed. This is a fatal error:
After that I completed the installation without installing a boot loader.
I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me out. I do want redundancy for /boot so placing it outside the RAID 5 set is not an option.
