location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 16, 2013
Hello. I am new to ubuntu (a week now) and have a question that googleing isn't helping with. I would like to install both the android ADT and Aptana. when I went to their site I was given a .zip file with the program in it. I am wondering how to install them. If I click the icon the program will open, is that it? is there a command for the terminal? there is nothing helpful in the read me files of either program.

Using "startup disk creator" I formated and installed 12.04 on a zip drive. Then I booted the drive and added two users. But when I boot to this drive it always comes up asking me to install or run ubuntu and I never get to logon. How do I get the logon screen to appear so I can logon to a secure account?
Trying to understand .zip files in Ubuntu
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 30, 2013
I am new to linux and Ubuntu ( 2 days new ). I am trying to get Minecraft to work with a set of modpacks my friend sent me. He sent me a .zip file that I think does not work in linux unless I have proper software ( is this correct ? ). So I installed Krusader using the Ubuntu Software center. I located the file that was sent to me in the left window of the program, I opend the .minecraft.zip folder and inside it was the folder I need to replace my current folder with. ( .minecraft is the name of the folder being moved/replaced ). I went up one level in the right window in order to place the new .minecraft folder in the correct spot. It gave me a popup ( as expected ) telling me that there was already a folder with that name. Now I was looking for an overwrite option but I did not find one. There was an option to write it alongside ( paraphrasing ) another folder but I did not know exactly what that meant so I pressed cancel and simply deleted the old .minecraft folder in the right wind

[SOLVED] Multipart ZIP archive, ubuntu has no clue what to do....
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 19, 2008
Hiya, i have a multi-part ZIP archive
when i try to extract the ZIP, i get:
warning [/home/monotoko/Desktop/NT51%2BWP2_CTFORUM(2).zip]: zipfile claims to be last disk of a multi-part archive;
attempting to process anyway, assuming all parts have been concatenated
together in order. Expect "errors" and warnings...true multi-part support
doesn't exist yet (coming soon).
file #1: bad zipfile offset (local header sig): 4
Is there anything that can handle multi-part archives in ubuntu?

how to add a file to a zip, without including the entire path from root
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 17, 2009
the following command works:
zip /var/www/html/ftp/zipdownloads/zipfile.zip /var/www/html/path/to/file1.png
But when I open the zip file on my desktop, the entire file's path-structure is saved inside the zip file so i have to go through 5 directories (var -> www -> html -> path -> to) to get to the file I zipped.
Is there a way to avoid this and have the file in the "root" of the zipfile?
thx + best regards,
[SOLVED] Help with unpacking and concatenating multiple zip files
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 2, 2010
Any help unpacking and putting together files as below would be deeply appreciated:
This is supposed to be a video, but I have no idea how to unpack these things and put them all together. I've tried extracting the .zip file but I get a null error with Nautilus. 1 thru 7 are 50 MB and the .zip file is 39.7 MB.
zip/unzip file too big
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 28, 2005
I have a .zip file that's about 3G in size and corrupted - the msg I get is "missing end signature"
However, when I try to repair it with zip's -F option, I get a msg that says "File size limit exceeded". I've since discovered that there is a hard limit of 2G on file size.
Is there any way to get around this limitation? I'd like to repair my file and then unzip it.
