"404 Not Found" error messages on developer.nokia.com website
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: August 13, 2011
I have been facing this issue for months now, just didn't get down to do anything about it till now.
When I try accessing the site http://developer.nokia.com, Firefox automatically changes the address to http://www.developer.nokia.com and I get the Chinese version of the website, and am not able to change it back to English, using the drop-down option on the site itself.
Now, this may sound like an issue with the site, but let me give you some background info, and what steps I have tried:
1. On the terminal, when I ping developer.nokia.com, I get the IP address of the site ( 22.214.171.124 ) and using this IP address, the English version of the site loads on Firefox. The problem is, if I try navigating through the links on the site, I get the "404 Not Found" error message (eg: "The requested URL /Resources/Library/Symbian_Design_Guidelines/ was not found on this server") because many links have "www.developer.nokia.com" prefixed in them.
2. When I pi

As we earlier reported Ubuntu Dash is getting rid of default useless huge icons (I haven't seen any use of it yet). The update has arrived. We are running Ubuntu 12.04 to keep an eye on the progress and we just noticed updates to Unity which removes those default 8 icons from the Dash and replace them with more useful shortcuts.
What's this: ec217412922792.compute1.amazonaws.com

I can see my computer always connected or with an idle connection to:

Can someone explain to me why and what's that? I am running Lucid.
Thanks in advance,

The Zsync information on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ZsyncCdImage is showing information for the build: raring. An update to saucy would better be suited.
Updating the ISO
Ubuntu archives provide .zsync files using quite similar URIs about the various flavours. For example:
will sync the server's daily unstable raring (13.04) desktop image (for i386) to your local system with an older desktop image already stored on your hard drive.
Note 1: If you are using other flavours of Ubuntu don't forget to add the flavour's name in the zsync path after cdimage/, e.g.
Note 2: If you are using another architecture don't forget to change i386 in the zsync path with the correct architecture name, e.g.

why ubuntu.com recommends a 32 bit OS?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 14, 2013
1. If you go to http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop , 32bit OS is flaged by "recommended"? why? a 32 bit ubuntu is better than a 64 bit?
I know a 32 bit OS works on a big variety machines, but as you know, most CPUs that have been made in the last decade and earlier years, are 64 bit!
2. however, I have a 64 bit machine, which one is better for my PC? a 64 bit (recommended) or a 32bit?

Cannot find the server at start.ubuntu.com error after restart new Ubuntu Install

I am stuck. I have been reading what seems like endless forum posts and answers online to this issue, but I cannot find a solution that works. I am not familiar with Ubuntu AT ALL. We recently installed the new .4 version of Ubuntu onto our server with the help of a programmer. When he was done everything worked fine. We restarted the server and now cannot access the internet. The website that is on the server still shows up online. I wanted to list everything we have done so far... but now it's too much to list. Everything we have done, we have restored to how we found it (no permanent changes). Since we cannot access the internet, the programmer who did everything cannot get into the system. I feel like this is not a hard fix... but not only are we not that familiar with Ubuntu, this new interface is also very confusing for us so we cannot find things as easily yet.
I am reaching out now to see if anyone has ideas! I do not know what information is needed to assess this? I'll do m

hello, after many lengthy Synaptics downloads, i realised what I was doing wrong. During installation, i told Ubuntu that I was in the UK (as this is my home country), but I am currently living in China. My reasons for this were a mix of patriotism, and the fact that my Chinese language skills are not enough to use a Chinese XP, let alone a Chinese Linux (as his is my first Linux experinece).
Anyway, today I edited "gb.archives.ubuntu.com" to the obviously faster-if-you-are-in-China "cn.archives.ubuntu.com".
I then tried adding this "cn" prefix to "security.ubuntu.com", but this didn't work. So i did the obvious and added this ".cn" to the end of the address. This worked great, and now my downloads from security.ubuntu.com.cn average about 100kB/s.
My only concern is that this site might not be offcially supported by Ubuntu as I have not seen it mentioned anywhere. I experimented with a few other alternatives, but they do not exist
Use a com port and the modem commands AT DT from Ubuntu 6.06.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 7, 2009
I'm logging as a newbie. I should know this.
I have a modem on comm port 3 on a Toshiba Laptop, running Ubuntu 6.06.
I need to connect to another modem, using the AT DT modem commands, log in and simply use the terminal on the other system. The other system is not connected to the internet, it has an Auto Answer modem setup.
All right now, I seem to remember Kermit. But when I go to add applications, and try kermit, there are no finds. PUTTY, or ssh are fine for connections to another system via an IP address, but won't allow me to setup connection to a port. From what I can determine, COMM PORT 3 is linked to /dev/ttys3.
Tried getty, but nothing provided me with a response. Oh yes, it probably is using the software modem.
If you want a Windows equivilent, I can run Dynamic Connect on the Windows side, (VT 220 emulator) This can be configured to connect to Comm Port 3.
So does anyone have any clues for this clueless one who should know better?
setup virtualbox serial com port for XP guest on ubuntu host
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 9, 2013
I've installed virtualbox and it works fine. Now I want to install a windows XP guest on it. I need this XP to connect to some device through serial com ports. So I need to set them up in the correct way.
My problem is that I don't know which options to choose. Like host pipe or host device and what to put in port/file path field.
