Create user add file with default password and force user to change it?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: February 2, 2010
Hi all, I'm wondering if the following is possible, and what the script would be:
I want to add 50 new users, not on the server yet
I want to add them all to group Accounting - with 1 option, not user by user
I want to setup a default password for them all, and have it say something like 'You must now change password or no access will be permitted'
Any other options I also want to do once, not for each user?
Is this possible, and what exactly would it look like?
I want access to my files but forgot Linux login password & partition is encrypted
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: May 22, 2013
I feel awful and embarrassed. I had done a fresh install of Linux on my computer that has had Windows 7. I kept the Windows 7 OS, and just created a Linux partition on the same hard drive. When the installation program asked me whether I wanted to encrypt the Linux partition, I said "Yes". was out of the country for many months and forgot what my Linux login password is. All that I remember is my login username. I don't really care if I can't log in to my Linux partition. What I care about is accessing my personal files, such as my pictures (JPG).
I've tried to think of what the password could be, but all attempted passwords are incorrect. What can I do now?
Some possibly important bits of info:
--I am the only user on the Linux partition.
--My login gives me admin access.
-- I don't mind if it takes days for my password to be successfully guessed. I can wait. I just want access to my files.
--I sometimes need to work on the computer, u

[REQ] RAR/ZIP archiver for Linux with password protection?
location: linuxquestions.com - date: April 24, 2007
I was wondering if someone knows of a good RAR/ZIP archiver for Linux, that is capable of password protecting the finished archives?
I tried searching numerous sites incl. this one of course but so far I haven't had any luck. A point in the right direction would be greatly appreciated as I'm distributing to-hot-to-handle files for my company, and so far I've had to compress and protect 'em on a Micro$uckz XP PC.
Thanks in advance,
BTW as you can see I'm running on Suse v10.2

My bose ask me to convert a CentOS system password like "LMPQSMTE0nHlQ" to postfix MySQL MD5 Hased password, I find CentOS seems has 2 kinds of password form, one is shorter and the other is very long like "$1$C2MSk16n$WT5JWnzYH7XpCCjsiE2bd1", however I find postfix is exactly the later long one, so does any one know how to convert the short form to the later one ?

Asterisk default password for running gastman?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: April 15, 2009
I just installed Jaunty to use as an Asterisk machine, and installed gastman to configure it.
When I run gastman, it brings up a dialog asking for the host name. I enter the IP address of the machine since I want to configure the local Asterisk on this machine. After that, I get a dialog asking for username and password. Asterisk was installed with apt-get; I have no idea what the password might be.
I have tried admin/admin, the user/password I use to log in on the machine itself and no password to no avail.
What should I do to connect to my local Asterisk installation?
