Changing Unix/Samba password from Windows Client
location: linuxquestions.com - date: March 24, 2012
I was curious if anyone knew how to change samba password from windows client instead of changing passwords in the ubuntu machine?
Is there a way if i change my windows log in password the samba password will also automatically change or the windows client can somehow change the samba password instead of doing it from the ubuntu machine.

Ubuntu One Windows Client Gathering Information, Please wait...
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 13, 2012
I'm having some major issues with the Ubuntu One Client for Windows (UbO-W). The problem is that when I install UbO-W on my machine it asks me to either setup or login to an existing account. I enter my credentials and it the says "Gathering Information, please wait..." for around 30 minutes. I then get a prompt about taking a tour, I decline and then get the "gathering information" problem again.
After another 30 minutes or so I get the following error:
"'NoneType' object has no attribute 'get_rootdir'"
I close this error and it gives me the ubuntu one dashboard but nothing will sync and I can't add files & folders to my sync profiles.
I know this problem isn't to do with my UbO account as it's working fine on my multiple 11.10 boxes. I also know it's not my Windows box as I have tried it on 3 separate Windows boxes and all 3 have done exactly the same thing (2 where x64 and 1 was x86).
I've posted this problem on launchp

VPN Not connecting on Ubuntu only (Windows XP standard openVPN client works)
- date: March 9, 2013
The title says it all.
Recently It has been impossible to connect to my VPN Service.
I had initially thought it was a problem of the service,
however, having checked the possibility to connect, using the open source openVPN client for windows XP, and seeing it works without hesitation,
obviously it is more related to Ubuntu.
The error I get (from command line.... it also does not work by GUI clicking anymore....) is the following:
:~$ nmcli con up id VPNService
Active connection state: unknown
Active connection path: /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/ActiveConnection/8
state: VPN connecting (need authentication) (2)
state: VPN connecting (3)
state: VPN connecting (getting IP configuration) (4)
Error: Connection activation failed: the connection attempt timed out.
Has anyone any idea why this might be the case?
I am currently on ubuntu 12.04, latest updates as of march 2013.
thanks in advance for any help.
SAMBA SERVER On UBUNTU 7.04 & Windows Client
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 26, 2007
I have installed and configured samba to run on UBUNTU 7.04 in compatibility with two clients (WinXP, VISTA business). The issue is that i have my own application residing on these three computers, where the databases are located only on the UBUNTU while the application is running on XP and VISTA and both are sharing the database successfully. What is happening is the following:when the first client starts the application everything is fine untill the second client starts up, the performance decrease sharply and the clients must wait around 4-6 seconds to finish their work...As a summary, something like sharing violation delay is happening, but i am not knowing which global parameter or share parameter is responsible for this issue..... can someone help me cause it's urgent.
Thanks in advance....
SSH Keys Ubuntu Server, Windows Client
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: January 18, 2013
I have SSH working with putty and FileZilla with just password authentication, but I CANNOT for the life of me get SSH keys to work. This is the deal, I have a 12.10 Ubuntu home server with an encrypted home folder. This means that I have to put my Authorized_keys file in /etc/ssh/[my name here].
I generated the public key and private key without passwords with PuTTYgen on my windows 7 computer and named the keys:
The keys are 2048 bits. (is that enough?)
Then, I used an USB dongle to copy the public key to the Ubuntu server. So, in my /etc/ssh/[my name here] folder I put the RSApubkey file. This is the ONLY file in here. I actually don't have a file names authorized_keys. Do I need this file?
Next, I changed the sshd_config file to this configuration:
# Package generated configuration file
# See the sshd_config(5) manpage for details
# What ports, IPs and

Ubuntu NFS Server Windows 7 NFS Client?
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 25, 2011
I am looking for a NFS solution for Windows 7 (Professional). I am currently running an Ubuntu Server with a few NFS shares on it and I can't, for the life of me, find a client for Windows 7 (Professional). Yeah I could spend $399 for some third party software, but that's just not in my budget. I've tried the SDK downloads from MS, but they were only compatible with Server 2008 which totally defeats the purpose of getting rid of Windows Server machines. I've heard that Windows 7 Ultimate has it built in but Professional does not, which sucks. I went to start -> control panel -> Programs and Features and there was no listing in "Turn Windows Features on or off" for NFS.
