Ubuntu 13.10 Doesn't Recognize Kali, Need Help Resizing Partitions
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 30, 2013
Hey guys, I'm having some problems installing Ubuntu 13.10. A few days ago I finished building a computer, and decided to check out Kali Linux just to see what it was like. I actually like it, even though I don't have the knowledge required to use the pentesting tools. I would like to keep it installed, but I decided to dual-boot Ubuntu alongside Kali, and use Ubuntu for casual stuff and gaming, while using Kali for programming and the like, and for pentesting in the future.
I used UNetBootin to make a bootable USB for installing Ubuntu, which worked fine. When I got to the partitioning step, it did not recognize another OS (it still recognized my partitions). So the only option given to me is to format my partitions, which I don't want to do. I tried to resize my partition with GParted, (I had some minor issues with the Kali install, and ended up using a single "/" partition, without a seperate "/home" partition. I figured I didn't really need a seperate /home pa

Need help creating a bootable USB drive for Ubuntu from a Mac, for a PC netbook
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: December 28, 2010
Hey all. I'm in a predicament. I stupidly deleted the partitions on my netbook's hard drive that contained Ubuntu, and now I'm stuck with the GRUB loader with the Error 22 message.
I've downloaded Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook edition, and I tried using the instructions to create a bootable USB drive, but my PC won't boot off it. I've already checked the netbook's BIOS to make sure "Removable dev." is the first boot option, and I had Ubuntu on the netbook previously and had used a similar method, but I had done it all using Windows XP.
Is the problem that I'm creating a bootable USB drive in OS X, for a Windows PC? When I use Terminal to create the Ubuntu USB drive, is it writing it in a way that only a Mac can read? If so, where do I go from here? My netbook is completely unusable right now, as it goes through the BIOS and directly to Error 22.
Thank you for any help you can provide! Also, I'm sort of a Ubuntu / Linux / OSX Terminal noob, so if I need to type some commands,

Need help booting into Ubuntu. How to create EFI partition; boot repair did not solve
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: March 30, 2013
So I have been trying to create a dual-boot for Windows 8/Linux for a while now. Due to the laziness of HP, I am unable to disable UEFI or move the Legacy boot order above UEFI, so I need to install Linux in UEFI. I'm currently trying to install Ubuntu 13.04. I can boot from USB fine, go through the installation process fine, but it just goes straight to Windows every time. I install as "something else" (creating alongside Windows doesn't work either). I create a "swap" partition, and then I create an "ext4" partition with mount point '/'. Is there something else that I need to do, a /boot partition or anything?
I ran boot repair, which did not solve this issue. When I ran boot repair, I got the message "EFI detected. Please check the options." I don't really understand which options I am supposed to check, or what I am supposed to do with those options. After running boot repair, it said to "Make BIOS boot on sda2/EFI/ubuntu/grubx64.efi fi
Help with building Ubuntu 9.04 Media Server
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: October 19, 2009
Complete linux newbie... Home theater and home automation expert but linux newbie...
My dilema... I want to build a linux based media center that will not only stream movies and music from the server to stereo system but also internet radio. I am not worried about all the extras like browsing and email. I have at this point figured out that I want to use ubuntu (unless anyone has a better idea, like I said I'm a newbie). I have read alot about XBMC and like alot of it's features but am not completely sold.
I have already set my ubunto PC to run squeezeserver and softsqueeze with great results. The only issue is that I want an all in one interface for music, movies, and internet radio. I know there has to be one out there that has a sexy GUI like XBMC I just have to find it.
Second, I want to be able to control the Server from a web browser.... I have been able to do this with Softsqueeze and Squeezeserver, but I do not get the option for video, only Music and Internet Radio.
