Can see wifi connection but can't connect, need help. Beginner to Ubuntu.
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 12, 2013
This is my first time using Ubuntu Linux so I have no idea what I'm doing.
I just installed Ubuntu Linux 12.04 on my Macbook White. Everything was fine till the installation screen where it said I need to connect to wifi.
When I checked all of the usual wifi that I see everyday was there including mine but it's greyed out. I can't click on it or do anything but the other wifi (which I don't have access to) works normally and request a password.
Currently I'm using a wired connection and was able to finish my installation. Anyone got any suggestion ?
need help with drivers. Ubuntu 9.10. Apple iBook G3 dual USB
location: linuxquestions.com - date: July 28, 2010
First of all, Hi. Im Nick, and I'm a Linux newbie.
Okay, with that intro aside, I got Ubuntu to install just fine on my iBook. A little slow to install, but worked. My USB wireless adapter even works. but thats the only thing that does, other than the trackpad and keyboard. The display is stuck at 800x600, it seems to be split into 2 screens, and i have no sound. heres a picture of my display problem.
I looked online the first time i installed it, and put a new config file in it (i cant remember the file name... /etc/xorg/ or something) and that made it go to the command prompt and not display any kind of gui. i know there are a lot of folks who have put ubuntu on iBooks, but they all talk about everything EXCEPT what I have a problem with.
OH, i just noticed on my desktop i have the xorgfile. (on my mac).
here is the xorg:
Resize partitions ubuntu 11.04
location: linuxquestions.com - date: June 1, 2011
I am currently running Ubuntu 11.04 (narwhal), dualbooting with Windows 7. When I installed ubuntu, i gave it a small(er) partition size for it to use (10gb total for swap and main partition). I now find I have run out of room on my Ubuntu partition, and want to (if possible) shrink down my Windows partioion and move some of that freed space to Ubuntu to expand it.
I tried to use gParted from a live Ubuntu CD, but I can't seem to move any unused space into the Ubuntu partitions. Am i doing something wrong?
For your reference, results of fdisk -l -u:

Not a noob. Need help G3 iMac lubuntu 12.04 install
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 18, 2013
So i had a very interesting, time consuming saturday attempting to install 12.04 precise on my iMac g3 flower power special edition. specs:
40 gb HD
So it took me about 5-8 installs to finally get through the installations. I had to install in cli-expert-powerpc from the alternate iso. I had to change the partition table to set up a separate /home partition in order to even 'install base system'. Then i had to remove installation options sshserver, print server, and email server (which i'll prob need to get back later but anyway) to get the software install to go to 100%.
I was new to lubuntu, as i havent messed with linux since before fedora took over red hat. So i'm not a complete stranger. But i'll tell you, i know that installation ISO fricken inside and out now, every option and command LMFAO.
I turn on imac. I get to yaboot where it automatically loads the phrase "Linux" then screen goes white, prom init and yada yada

Need help setting up Ubuntu!! made some mistakes
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 20, 2011
Just got a new computer and decided to partition a bit of it to Ubuntu (along with Windows 7). Its a 64 bit, Dell xps 17.
I installed Ubuntu from the CD, but when that was complete, unity didnt open up, the desktop was in classic mode. It mentioned that your hardware cannot support unity which is off as this is a very new computer (Nvidia Gforce GT 555M). So I thought this might be a driver problem.
Then I started typing these commands as they were recommended to some guy in some other forum who had a similar problem:
cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /home/you
sudo rm /etc/X11/xorg.conf
sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart
Then the computer went to a terminal type screen (black) (as you can tell I am a complete noob)
I restarted the system by pressing ctrl + alt + delete. Now it always goes back to this screen which says things like:
speed-dispatched disabled; edit /etc/default/speech-dispatcher
* Stopping System V initialisation compatibility [OK]

Need help creating a wifi hotspot (not ad hoc)
location: linuxquestions.com - date: September 4, 2013
Hello, I've tried everything to create a wifi hotspot from my pc. I have no idea how to do it on linux mint 15 cinnamon. I can easily create an ad hoc network but wifi is another matter entirely.
Can one of you help me out with this? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
