Ubuntu 12.04 Need help installing Canon MF6550 printer driver. Linux newb.
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 9, 2013
Brand new member here and only second day ever using Linux. I am trying to get my printer (Canon MF6550) to work. Canon's website has a driver for Linux but I don't know how to install it.
Any help would be much appreciated. Seriously.
PS. I suppose I should say that I'm an intermediate user in the Windows environment. I can follow directions pretty well though.
About to install Ubuntu 12.04 need help partitioning /home
location: linuxquestions.com - date: May 17, 2012
I was installing 11.10 a few months ago and a few LQ members were urging me to partition my hard drive so separate /home and (I think it was the OS itself?) I have a 500 GB hard drive and ubuntu takes up all of it (not dual booting). Being I'm generally unsure of how EXACTLY to partition a hard drive I would really appreciate a step-by-step guide as to how I would go about partitioning my hard drive. I know when I start installing Ubuntu I select "something else" but from that point I won't exactly know what to do but the members did say it would be (in the long run) the best thing for me...so help? maybe a little?

Need help installing Ubuntu 12.04 Macbook Pro
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: November 6, 2012
I need a little help in the installation of ubuntu on my macbook pro 5.5.
I've read through the instructions and then worked.
I installed ubuntu 4.12 64bit with a usb stick.
In the instructions that stood before to use gpartet sollte. This I made.
Then in the partition menu i created one swap, and then create root / with ext 4.
The bootloader will be installed in the root partition, for me was the sd3.This I have done.
After installation I have in rEFIt partition tool clicked yes for the sentence with mbr.
Then try to start linux, but I always get a black screen with a blinking cursor.Nothing happened then.Everytime the same.
I have also tried different installation then it works.
I installed the boot loader not in root, but in the normal apple hard drive.
Then I can start normally.
My question now, you have to install the bootloader necessarily root or can you just like me in the main hard drive?
I also do not understand is when I'm in

NEED help with xorg.conf !!!! (ubuntu 11.04)
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: July 24, 2011
Identifier "Default Device"
Option "NoLogo" "True"
that's all my default xorg.conf has
i need to add modelines to my xorg.conf so i used nvidia's display settings program (after backing up my xorg.conf of course)
whenever i boot with created by nvidia's app (and my edited modelines) mouse/keyboard are not working...
the whole purpose of this excercise is so i can add 1280x800 to my modelines (cause my monitor is 16:10 resolution and its default 1440x900 is way too small. And the 4:3 resolutions (which is all that's provided other than 1440x900) are painful to my eyes as the fonts are stretched and blury....
can someone explain to me how i can get my 1280x800 (which is perfectly useable in windows to work on ubuntu (which actually worked just fine in ubuntu 2 point releases ago) and why the xorg.conf is suddenly USELESS???
And why is the system limited to 50hz, that really hurts my eyes!!!!! expecially
