I need some help installing Tor

Hi, everyone, I wont to install Tor and this is what I followed .
Code:
Option one: Tor on Debian squeeze, Debian sid, or Debian testing
If you're using Debian, just run
apt-get install tor as root.
Note that this might not always give you the latest stable Tor version, but you will receive important security fixes. To make sure that you're running the latest stable version of Tor, see option two below.
Now Tor is installed and running. Move on to step two of the "Tor on Linux/Unix" instructions.
Option two: Tor on Ubuntu or Debian
Do not use the packages in Ubuntu's universe. In the past they have not reliably been updated. That means you could be missing stability and security fixes.
You'll need to set up our package repository before you can fetch Tor. First, you need to figure out the name of your distribution. A quick command to run is lsb_release -c or cat /etc/debian_version. Here's a quick mapping:
Debian unstable (sid) is "s

Hi there,
With the release of the Raspberry Pi and the fact that its going to be using Linux of some flavour. I have never used Linux, I think that I have allways been a little scared of it
But I have a strong intention to get hold off one of these Pi's and to help get my newphew, who's 10, involved in comuters and computing beyond the control pad of his console.
As there are some big waiting lists to get a Pi i thought my first job would be to get to grips with linux and find out what kind of things I can do on it, and why it is used by some people in prefferance to Windows.
Ok, so my plan is this I have a Dell Laptop that i dont use, as it came with vista and only 1gb of memory and has never run very well. So Im happy to wipe it clean and install Linux on it. However I have no idea how to go about this or what flavour of Linux to use. I believe the Pi is using the Debian one so it may be prudent to use the same one.
I guess my first project will be just to get the Laptop working in

Need some help with ssh

Hi there my fellow Linux Users!
Could really use some help setting up ssh to use protocol 1 as well as 2. At this point it's only accepting protocol 2.
When I try to restart the sshd service I get this message:
Disabling protocol version 1. Could not load host key.
What setting in sshd_config should I change for it not to require host keys for ssh 1?
Thanks!

Hello everyone I'm a newb to linux and I would like to write some codes for this BUT I would like some help for this scenario:
I have been asked to provide a shell script to perform a range of backup and restore tasks. The program will be menu driven and will provide the following options:
Backup all files from a location specified on the command line to a date stamped folder with yesterday’s dateCarry out an incremental backup i.e. only files that have altered since the last backupRestore files from a specified backup locationQuit the system
Command line parameters will be passed that will indicate the locations of files to be backed up and restored to.
The program should be menu driven and user friendly. The menu will be displayed repeatedly until the user selects the option to quit. The program should be robust and should inform the user what is happening.

Need some help

My burner is cooked and my only USB is a 512mb so I have no way of getting the newest linux OS installed.
What I wanted to know is if I can use "damn small linux" and upgrade from that to the full version, or if there is an older version that is small enough that I could later upgrade, and if so where do I get it?
The reason I want to make the switch is because I'm using a 96 compaq with 512RAM, and XP is slower than a snail on this thing.
Thanks,
Vict0r.

Need Some Help Getting my Nic Card Working

Hi guys-
I have issues with one of my ethernet interfaces (eth1), so I've been trying to bring up eth0 without any luck. So far, I've tried the following:
edited /etc/network/interfaces from:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
to
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
then restarted networking with /etc/init.d/networking restart
logged out, logged back in. Still nothing. Something happned along the way and now my network manager wont recognize the device I want to enable, says device not managed.
Any help would be great!
please wait...
