Unknown GNU/Linux games !
location: ubuntuforums.com - date: February 18, 2008
I always try to provide you with good native games (some in development) every few days.
Now I'm asking you to try and find unknown (or not so well known) native GNU/Linux games.
Those games could be playable or in development.
But please don't provide us with games that we all already know about like quake, doom, nexuiz, freeciv - they are all good but we heard about them before.
The games can be free and open source or commercial.
But please don't post abandoned or very old and inactive projects.
Anyway, try to find a few games by yourself.
Some tips :
1. If you find a game that uses the Torque engine there is a huge chance of it being ported to GNU/Linux, so don't hesitate and look at the game forums for mentions about "Linux", if you did not find it, be sure to post/ask about it.
2. If you see that the game uses DirectX only, there is no real chance of it being ported to GNU/Linux (unless it's open source).
3. if you see that the game uses OpenGL - there is a chance

Only buying native linux games!

I have an idea to get more games developed for linux. Vow to never again buy a non-native linux game. Call it the "No Non Native Gamer" movement (N3G), or whatever.. I have considered the consequences, and would wait it out, even for a couple years!
If you take a second to consider its not difficult to envision the progression to seeing mainstreams titles popping up in the repos, apt-get install Left4Dead2 But seriously, first it would become the ideal platform to kickstart indie game developers, these companies would grow with the funding of abstinent gamers trying to get some action, which would cause larger companies to feel threatened. This threat would rise in the ranks until eventually guys like valve won't just be trying to get something working, they would have to! It might even become straight up profitable to port to this percentile of the market?
Some might argue why bother? Valves looks like they are trying, and hell unity is now 100% supported in li

Even though there are many top-quality open source games available for Linux, the operating system is still vastly underrated as a gaming platform. Encouragingly, we have seen developers of some of the most popular commercial gaming titles embrace Linux. The welcoming hand that Valve has extended, developing a Linux native version of their Steam client and porting their back catalogue, should accelerate takeup of Linux as a real gaming platform. But it is important that Linux developers do not neglect what has made it a success; high quality open source software.
